They are so pretty

Today I am making some shoes for the hot summer in Seville, They may seem tremendously ugly to you, they are to be used without socks

Florsheim Imperial wingtips v's handmade wingtips

After wearing handmade shoes all winter (rarely wear gyw in winter) l forgot how ordinary gyw feels. I decided to slip into a pair of vintage Imperials tonight for a short walk, and the difference between them and handmades is like night and day.

Imperials double soled
- old battle tanks with no luxury touches, and certainly not a luxury ride
- stiff under neath due to being factory made
- a chore to wear despite fitting well...really roughing it...rough as guts

Handmades double soled
- a smooth luxury ride
- full flexibility and softness
- a pleasure to wear, perfect. They glide along.

It says alot of shoo construction, the hand stitched soles and hand welting makes all the difference, and so does the materials and how a shoo is built. The experiment spoke volumes.

Thanks for reporting. I'm considering more and more the choice to buy only hand-welted shoes in the future. Unfortunately there's not much available without going bespoke.

Two loafers from Gaziano & Girling. I really love the hatch grain leathers. I certainly would prefer the right one, not fond of that high, broad tongue reminiscent of the Arca model from Corthay.

Vass Budapester? Very nice! (even if not lol) e. oh it's not Vass, is it. whatever very nice!
Hartt Shoes. Canadian brand which was one of the big 3 GYW shoe makers in the country. Church’s/Cheaney level of construction. Defunct for 30+ years.

I just bought a pair of Cheaney dark brown Oxford's in their sale. I dont need anymore Oxford's, I just need a pair of Chukkas and possibly Moc Toe boots to finalise the rotation.

I forgot, I wanted to try the hand welted Linea Maestro's from Meermin and the Blue Suede shoes from Scarosso.

My latest pair of Cheaney's arrived today. Harrington in dark brown, last 6184.

It's the same colour as my Alfred Mocha, last 125 that arrived a few months ago...

I am sure the colours looked relatively different..

They both look solid English style with comfortable room in the toe box.
I now have three dark brown Oxford's. If I return them for a black pair, I will probably find I have seven black Oxford's. So unless they don't fit, they are staying.
I have a Harrington in black already, but they are a different size I am sure.

What about bordeaux, tan and cognac?

Do you guys keep your shoe boxes or do you discard them? I am thinking of getting some stacking storage boxes or a 30 pair shoe rack.

I hold my shoes in the original boxes, but of course you could save some space with a proper rack or a nice shoe cabinet, with the advantage to see all your shoes at one glance.

Mine are on proper racks, but not all one place, several off the hallway in their sliding door racked cubby hole and the rest upstairs and other family members want to use the hallway one. So it's a case of fighting for the space and rotating based on what I consider seasonal shoes.

Great. I was hoping to be able to buy a new shoe in Herring sale, but nothing I fancy at the right price.

I have 3 pairs of Cheaney. Good leather and well made.

I keep mine in the boxes. From time to time the boxes forget they belong in a closet.

A pal of mine used to take Polaroid photos and stick them on the boxes. A good idea but one I never took up.

You seem to be a black shoo fan Thruth. There are times when they can look good and blend in nicely and don't need just to be worn formally.
