Watched a bit of the second half of USA vs Australia. Aussies had no chance. Then I watched Scotland vs Morocco. Scotland was a shambles the first half. Made Morocco look so dangerous. The players were slow. Did they even get any on target for the few chances they had? Can’t believe I spent the time to watch them

My lady friend of neutral nation kept thinking they would score but they were absolute rubbish.

Also went to the official fan festival with level 1 VIP ticket area. Was pretty nice. Toilets were better than I thought.

I've never understood why theres so much violence attached to soccer. Brawls, flares and more. I have seen the theories that its related to the low scores - and the tension built up. Like its common and possible to have a 0-0 game or a draw 1-1, or win 1-0.

In contrast to the Australian Rules Football (AFL) where a score can be 80 - 100 points per game. A goal = 6 points and a point = 1 point. So a match - for one team might be 12 goals = 72 points and 12 points = 12 points for at total team score of 84. - the losing opposition score might be - in good close match = 80 points. So thee could be 24 scoring kicks for winning teams and as many or more for losing team. The tension theory suggest that this high scoring releases tension regularly..

Another difference is that AFL to a large extent - is a game where families, women and children, go along, in addition supporters from opposing sides mix with each other and many times sit next to each other. As well as travel together on trains etc. Pretty much always without fear of violence.

I know that in UK many venues sperate fans with mesh fences and have much lower crowd numbers - and families would not consider attending many matches.

At a grand final the crowd of 98,000 at the AFL grand final at the MCG - Police arrested one man, evicted 14 people from the MCG and issued nine penalty notices for a range of offences on Saturday. None of the offences were violence related.

Working class sport. One of my mates always wants to go to the supporter section for our local club where everyone is dressed in black and predominantly the skin tone is white to I would say a tanned southern European. I always tell him it’s not a section for him because he is Indian.

For a derby like Montreal vs Toronto it’s best not to let the away supporters mix with the home crowd. It’s really for their protection. At least here the per capita alcohol consumption for footy was higher than all the other sports. As prices have gone up this has declined but that doesn’t mean they don’t pre drink coming into the venue.

Also depends where you sit. Reckon if you are in a suite or VIP seat in the centre you won’t experience the same. Your black car SUV picking you up at the stadium will help too.
 
Ecuador hasn't scored going back 20 something fixtures. Mighty Curacao takes to the pitch.
 
A player is offside if they are in the opponent's half of the field and are closer to the goal line than both the ball and the second-last defender at the exact moment the ball is played to them by a teammate

What is with the announcer inside the New Jersey stadium? The score at half time is zero-zero. No, it's nil nil.
 
This Thursday it could be Ronaldo's last World Cup game or Modric's last game.

I noticed the one South African my local club signed didn't even make it on the national squad.
 
Not sure why there was frustration in the stadium, Canadian commentators and my brother's wife. South Africa were the lower side. They were going to defend and try to get through extra time until penalties.
 
Punidt/commentator: It's the first time Canada has gone through the knockout round of 32...

.................it's also the first time there was a round of 32. Ever. For any nation.
 
We are hosting one more game (Canada and Morocco on 4 July) and then life and work and return to a semblance of normal. Alls gone well so har with very few medical issues and no violence.

Some American who knows nothing about footy today said I'm taking a client who is Irish to the England vs. DR Congo game today in Atlanta. Will he enjoy it?

I said - an Irishman? He either wouldn't care or be offended you took him or he would be cheering for Congo who is up 1-0 against England right now
 
There is a phalanx of cops, a blocked street and 3x more fans than showed up for Canada, Croatia, Germany, Iraq/Senegal, Ghana.

....all waiting for CR7 and the Portugal team.
