The Fragrance Thread & SOTD

Annick Goutal Eau de Monsieur. First wearing and I like it. Very citrus opening and then mossy. Seems many reviews find it to be a gagg-inducing scent, which I just don't see.
 
Sounds nice to me. Today I went with the re-introduced Nicole Miller for Men. Fruity and boozy, just like me

The neroli forte isn't bad. Got it on now. Reminds me of dunhill desire in the dry down.

LE SIGH. Dunhill. Such a venerable house making such crap scents.

Today, Guerlain (speaking of venerable houses making crap scents) L'Instant pour Homme. It's okay in that I don't smell like cat urine. At least there's that.

The only mint-note scent I ever tried was Cartier Pasha, and I grew weary of it very quickly. Perhaps the CDG sherbet series 5: Peppermint might scratch the itch

thanks, will do. Guerlain has a lot of mediocre scents these days. but the classics. i also have some Jicky & Imperiale

I think a lot of scents are poor from the 90s onwards. A reaction to the excesses of the 80s maybe. The 80s were fabulous, the perfume industry became large and the competition to make a scent that stood out from the crowd was high. I doubt you would get something like Kouros released these days.

My own personal fav though is Fahrenheit, which I consider the greatest men's scent of all time. An outrageous scent that only the French could conceive. You couldn't really copy Fahrenheit, because it was so 'out there' that anything attempting it would be labelled a clone, unfortunately its uniqueness paradoxically led to it becoming ubiquitous. Everybody recognises the smell of Fahrenheit.

Jicky is OK once you get past the rancid opening, but Mouchoir de Monsieur is a more refined scent I feel.

Guerlain's last great scent was probably Samsara, which is beautiful and rich, even though Heritage isn't bad which I think came along a few years later.
 
Well, a number of perfumistas consider Guerlain Proper to have ended when LVMH bought a controlling share in 1994.

Mouchoir, at least the bottle I had, was very prominent with the civet, to the point where a young lady at Sunday School complained to her mom, who responded perhaps a bit loudly "well just hold your nose". Henceforth it became my chosen scent for church attendance and visits to the in-laws

Have you smelled or sampled them? Tom Ford is nice but does not last that long. Consider the extreme

Have you sampled any vetiver? know what it smells like? If you like it then the TF is a good one

I popped into a Sephora and grabbed the grey vetiver, TF Black and TF for men. The black smelt the nicest to me, then the vetiver was 2nd.

I very much like Grey Vetiver. It was my interview scent last year.

Speaking of Tom Ford, today I'm wearing Amber Absolute for what may be the last cold day for the next 8 months.
 
Found this bottle stuffed in a drawer, I'll probably buy another next time I go to a Brooks Bros outlet.

It got me a compliment about the smell on my last date, that's enough to make me go get another bottle.

Kudos formby formby . I picked up Geranium pour Monsieur & Fahrenheit on your recommendation. Really like them both
