the classic smells like some sort of acqua di parma
the marte arte smells....... green.... and of wood
 
yesterday Frederick Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire. a lighter, greener vetiver as opposed to an earthy, root one.

Wearing the Cuiron. I think the online reviews are definitely biased, albeit I have never smelled the original version. But the longevity is definitely good.
 
Yesterday I discovered that my office is a five-minute walk to Nordstrom. So I ventured out and picked up a bottle of Azuree which I used to have, sold off, and now want again. Despite the new bottle it remains fantastic, perhaps a little reduced in longevity but considering how powerful it used to be that's not an awful thing

Yup. Picked it up over a decade ago. Surprisingly it is still being sold. I actually like the smell, particular for something so inexpensive.

That's one of the funny things about that industry: when you don't have marketing or hype, your product has to actually smell good to survive.
 
Tried a whole bunch Santa Maria novella perfumes today. There's one that smells just like a classic race car. Rubber, leather and gasoline.
 
I can't recall thinking I really liked anything from that house. Or at least liked enough to pay for, or risk getting caught stealing it.

Today I went with something I bought secondhand and strangely never wear: Lutens Sa Majeste sa Rose. A nice green rose soliflore.

I would be interested in what you have to say about Ambre Narguilé.

On a related note, my favorite is their classic eau de cologne ("orange verte"), but most days I am disappointed by how quickly it fades. Did anyone ever try the concentrated version on a somewhat regular basis? Is it worth the try? Or alternatively, does anyone have any suggestions for similar but longer-lasting scents?

not on a regular basis but I found that it faded just as quickly as the cologne, at least down here in the hot sun. the only Hermes I own is Terre because its the only one with lasting power.
 
Terre lasts a while, as does Eau des Merveiles. L'Ambre des Merveilles also lasts a while but is less-bracing.

Aside: in my hurried bid to express my disdain for Hermes, I forgot that I have those three. For some reason I have this weird wall between the Hermes orange-themed scents, and the rest of the line-up (hermesscence, Bel Ami, Equipage, Rocabar, etc). Weird
 
Used Orange Verte at one point, but did not refill. Might in the future. Atm I use Eau de narcisse bleu on rainy summer days, Eau D'Hermes and Equipage are mixed with other stables when I feel like it. The last two are best on those days, when I am in a suit or sports jacket.
 
I'm afraid to say that I'm not a huge fan of Terre d'Hermès - not that I have a refined vocabulary to describe my specific distaste for it. . . Their eau de cologne, on the other hand, invokes good memories for me whenever I wear it; I'm just not particularly fond of having to carry the bottle around. I am tempted to say that freshening up every so often is the point of cologne at any rate. I should just get another bottle for the office. . .
