So 2 couples decide to get away for the weekend. The dudes are brothers...one is married and the other brings his girlfriend and dog.

They book a nice oceanfront spot and plan to do a little drinking, a little exploring and a little drugs. What could go wrong?

Well...loads?

They start to get the feeling that they are being watched. The "caretaker" who lives down the road seems creepy. The dog goes missing. WTF is gong on?

How about WTF did I watch? This was NOT good! Did it have potential? I'm really not sure!

Hard pass!

I never watched Kingsman so I thought I'd watch King's Man.

I knew there was a young protege in the movie and when he died in King's Man I thought that's a bit strange. How did he end up in the two other movies? Then I figured out King's Man was released in 2021 and is a prequel to the other two which released in the 2010s.

I guess I should be faulted for mixing Colin Firth with Ralph Fiennes.
 
Operation Mincemeat, pretty good, but nothing that justified watching it on the big screen in the cinema instead of at home.
 
everything everywhere all at once - not bad. definitely an interesting movie, sweet, unique, and something unusual. id say its worth a watch.

AKA: Downton Abby Fools Hitler

Caught it on Netflix lastnight and really enjoyed it. Solid cast and production, even if the story is old. There’s something wonderfully soothing about Brit dramas like this.

A recently married couple decides to honeymoon in/around Egypt by boat. There are some shady characters on the cruise. When the bride is killed, super sleuth Hercule Poirot, who is also on the cruise, is on the case.

He has to sift through the strange behavior of the many suspects. He has to deal with the agendas that many have to have the bride offed! Point gets help form some of the people on the cruise, or does he?

There is backstabbing, booze and belligerence to go around.

Stellar cast! Amazing scenery. Solid flick.

I watched the new one on Disney Plus and the plot twists were pretty formulaic.

It was a series of no it's him, no it's her, no it's really that guy who had a reason.

There were a lot more visible minorities in the 21st century version.

The new one I struggled to get further than 30 minutes in, it's so strained and trying, it grated.

The Report. Solid production and a killer cast make a fairly dull story come to life. Still could have been trimmed a little in editing but I’d give this a solid 8/10.

Surprisingly good B Grade suspense/horror film that starts slow with some good character development. Attractive woman leaving the office Friday night gets stuck in the elevator with a nice guy … or is he?
 
watched secrets of dumbledore - what an awful and boring movie. don't really know why i bothered other than the fact it was new. i dont even like harry potter.

I never enjoyed it since the first film but then I've never read any of the novels so maybe that explains my apathy. My aunt does and I bought her tickets to the latest theatre show.

Hot cheating wife and her psycho snail collecting husband. Murder is easy, avoid women with multiple red flags. 6/10. Would be a 4 if not for the female lead being so damn gorgeous.

I watched The Father on Amazon Prime. I remember Anthony Hopkins was nominated for and won an Oscar last year but being remote he didn't even bother staying up virtually to receive it. I just didn't know it was for this movie.

As someone who dealt with each of his grandparent progressively degenerate with family care, in home care and finally senior home, all of that was old hat to me. The accusations of people stealing masquerading as forgetfulness, bitterness of giving up one's autonomy and random lashing out are things I don't need a movie to remind me of.

What I didn't know was the movie's portrayal of dementia. For me dementia is you simply forget short to medium term things - which for me is fine. You establish a baseline again and you move forward in life. No different than going on a bender and blacking out for XX hours or tripping out on some drug.

But in this movie time is no longer progressing in a linear fashion. The best example was when he excused himself for a second serving of chicken knowing his daughter was about to have an uncomfortable conversation with her (I assume) husband and then he happens to be at the same scene as the beginning of the dinner. It must be infuriating that things are all jumbled together - past and present.
 
Top Gun Maverick - excellent 80s vibed action film. Was never a big fan of the original, think I only watched it the once, but this delivers on the aerial dog fighting thrills and old school Americans of all creeds united together working as a team.

It was criticised for not recognising China is a military superpower and the Americans would struggle for air superiority against them. If only there was a substantial Asian presence in the movie.

It doesn't state who the enemy is, but the inference based on landscape and snow, it's a North Korean style rogue state, but without the readied nukes. The Chinese won't like it, which is a big plus.

Its a great film. The flight scenes are amazing and will never be bettered, obviously as they're real.

Its incredible how fighter pilots stay conscious pulling those moves, flight suits notwithstanding.

The enemy's plane is s Sukhoi Su-57 5th gen allegedly.

Guy Hamilton's The Battle of Britain (1969) is pretty good too on the real flight scenes.

Not yet, but saw it as a new documentary on Netflix and plan to watch it over the weekend.

All the allied bombing campaigns, the Brits, Eighth Air Force, Arthur Harris, Curtis LeMay, Jimmy Stewart on the Schweinfurt raid, The Lady Be Good Lost in the desert and the strategic fire bombing and eventual atomic bombs in Japan I find very interesting and horrific history.

Bomber Command have been treated terribly over the years, whereas Fighter Command were lauded (rightly) as heroes.
 
Took the kids to see Buzz Lightyear at iPic. It might have been the food and mojitos, but I enjoyed it. Cool animation and a tight, well crafted and kinda complex story.

Father’s Day movie night, we watched the last Bond film. It was very good. One of the best, and certainly up there with Casino. The female lead was a bit blah, but Ana de Armas in That Dress … sigh! Rami Malek is a great actor, but his character is a typical, 2D Bond villain. Overall though, it was nice to see a little depth to the characters and a fun storyline that was ridiculous but without major flaws. A very nice end to this chapter of the franchise. 8/10
 
In amongst the aged shite and non-classic old films on Netflix, they have in the Netherlands, The Cruel Sea. What a great film, still stands as a classic today. An interesting display of the English sangfroid too.

Also re-watched the Scottish film, Restless Natives, a light comedy about two underemployed Scots taking up robbing tourist coach tours in the Highlands. Very 80s and the casual look is much in evidence with tight jeans and Adidas trainers, also like now, lots of white trainers. Worth a revisit.
