For sure he wants to make what's left of Ukraine landlocked.

I would say the partition is ambitious. They'll have a hard time with Kharkov which they thought would welcome them with open arms with so many Russian speakers there. From Kharkov down to Dnipro and then Donbas and South...after that it would be wise to push back and call it a day. Zelensky will never agree to a situation where Russian control is at his doorstep almost like east/west Berlin.

I think the nato border sounds pretty logical at this point as I can’t see any other point for the current activities.

In Russia now, the security and secret service state are rapidly returning to the Soviet model. Many youngsters who can afford to leave are doing so, before they're locked-in as they use to be.

The Ukrainians have blown some key bridges into Transnistria which does have Russian troops stationed in as normal.
 
The Russian state television channels are only showing news, political propaganda and a couple of health programs. All the entertaining stuff is removed.

Somewhat flat, not a great photo for me, I get the dog interest. We really need the old style, 35mm B&W and colour slide with various prime lenses, especially wide angle and Sunday Times type war photo-journalism of the likes of Don McCullin.
 
The mass graves are now being found as the Russians fall into retreat, the missile attacks on Odessa has begun.

Over the border in Moldovia the public transport system appears to be grinding to a halt. Might have to consider getting the mother-in-law away from there if it deteriorates.

My mother-in-law was kicked out of a car a couple of days ago from family in the disputed zone for stating that it was obvious why the Ukrainians had blown up the bidges. They'd been thoroughly brain washed.

We should be happy then that the third largest army in the world struggles to project power. That bodes well when conflict draws in the second largest army in the world.

Only the US can project military power simultaneously in two different places on the planet. But they have chosen not to be in this fight probably because it was a massive drain on resources in the 2000s and 2010s.
