USA drops De Minimis. Okay. Why is my postal service enrolling me into a program where I am paying for duties as a shipper (seller) to receivers (buyers) in the States? Shouldn't the buyer (aka importer) collect it?

I remember the days of UPS or DHL dropping off a package or a note to collect it with a hefty bill from a broker. But I was the receiver (aka buyer).

My fave is when you do a job interview online and the candidate doesn’t turn on their camera. Unless you come in heavy and early with apologies and a good excuse like you just got out of surgery, that’s an automatic disqualification for not being able to read the room or prepare.
 
I was at a concert for Handel's Messiah last night. These days attending a weekend performance draws all sorts of crowds in varying degrees of formality when it comes to attire.

A tall bloke walks in with a beard and glasses and curlyish somewhat unkempt hair - this is the style these days - with a top hat, a black tailcoat that goes down to his knees, and a red neck tie. He looked like a caricature of Abraham Lincoln. I reckon he had the same matching coloured plain black trousers. I think he had a waistcoat - not quite sure because of the distance. What is this? An evening version of morning dress? I shudder to think what he believes is appropriate for the upcoming Rigoletto performances. Also if you are willing to go to all these lengths, should you not check your top hat at coat check?

As a reference the men in the orchestra were dressed in white tie.

I spent some time the past month in a town (city?) of 160,000. This tri-city area doesn't have enough presence to have their own television channels so I see the 24 hours news station and sports games that are set back where I live. Literally down the street where the basketball and hockey games are. Various shots of news cameras on the scene of traffic, the financial district, skyline shots - and then I wonder, why am I so far away from home?

I guess this must be what New Yorkers think when they see the skyline shots from Bloomberg Surveillance in the morning.
 
This guy next to me waiting for the bus is talking about which uncle and family members he has blocked. What is mother would get from inheritance and what % he will get off her share. Now he is going on about the litany of wrongs done against him and how everyone in the family has more money them him and how some bloke in his family cheated on his wife.

Self checkout tills with 2 people.. Presumably a couple. Is it a 2 man job? I have never seen them pay faster. In the city, the extra person actually gets in the way in the cramped bagging area.
 
Slow cooked peperonata and made cacio pepe for my mother for lunch. After giving her the small portions she wanted because she says she is easily full, she then decided to eat crisps and grocery store palmiers afterwards.

Americans use England, Britain and the UK interchangeably because they don’t understand the difference
 
In America, they also don't understand the different communism, fascism, or socialism other than it's not capitalism so it must be the wrong -ism.
 
My favourite way to confuse Americans is to remind them that they use the IMPERIAL measurement system. Along with Burma and Liberia.

One guy was buying multiple cups of coffee. You can't make coffee for your mum or wife or grandma?

I just heard someone made an AI avatar service where you can dump things about a dead loved one and the avatar gives you the chance to continue or rebuild your relationship. People make money on everything.
