Long filler - basically tobacco leaves are trimmed to fit and rolled into other leaves. This is different from mixed filler where you get the trimmings with the leaves. Mixed filler has two drawbacks: the trimmings can come out the clipped end and into your mouth while drawing on the cigar, and if the factory leaves pesticides on the floor, the clippings may pick that up.

Varying flavor profiles come when leaves are trimmed and rolled together. There's a fair degree of variety between the tobaccos used.

Re: Garcia factory - they make the Don Pepin lines, the My Father lines, and a lot of the Tatuaje smokes - I can't remember a bad stick from any of these brands.

They're banning menthols here at the end of the year. My cousin will be crying.

Is he Italian? Is this because they are extra unhealthy or because they are the wine coolers of smoking, a soft entry for sweet-toothed little children? Or just a way to persecute a minority?

My cousin is a she, and no she's not Italian.

It is a government measure to making consumption of tobacco products less palatable.

Can the superiority of these magical Azn smokes be explained? Smoother, stronger, better flavor?

Much smoother and stronger. Azn smokes don't have all the regulations that American smokes have, less chemical additives.

Pops brought back a cartoon of HongTaShan cigarettes, much better than any American counterparts
Wiki says these smokes are sold in the US under the Red Pagoda Mountain name. Web search finds nada so far. Anyone actually seen them?

So I finally tried this vaping thing that all the youngs are doing. It is weird. The liquid crackles and that vapor is not really delivered at a predictable rate. It also seems that some hot droplets or something gets through at times, some disconcerting hot spots in the mouth. But at the same point, it doesn't have the feel of real smoke filling the lungs. On the plus side, you can take a puff or two and set the thing aside for hours and have it ready to go at next whim. Did I mention that the crazy devices are not cheap?

I'll stick with tobacco, thanks. Speaking of, I have a couple of boxes of these Room 101 smokes winging their way to DoomHQ, should arrive soon.

One of my mates is asking me to get into pipes. Isn't that even more obscure than cigars and shisha?

A 10-pack of Pinoleros on clearance for $2.50 each. 10 of these and another 25 figurados. I guess that counts as a binge, and should last me a few months.

What's a good starter cigar for a first-timer?
There are lots of good ones out there but my default rec is Matilde Renacer in the corona size. They have it at the Serious Cigars off 610 between Richmond and Westheimer.

I'd recommend Romeo y Julieta, bigger sizes (diameter) are said to be easier to smoke. They are a light smoke and don't cost a fortune. Though if you quit cigarettes and want to keep it that way, be aware that cigars are a slippery slope.

Larger sizes up to a point. For me coronas (~46 ring gauge) and toros/ robustos (~50 ring gauge) are the easiest to smoke. Up to 56 ring I'm okay but past that it's a lot of tobacco and a lot of work to keep the cigar burning out to the wrapper. I'd avoid the 60+ honkers until you've burned a few.

Forgive the awful burn line, this is a relight after Baby DOOM (henceforth to be known as K-DOOM to celebrate her admission to Kindergarten) spilled Ranch dressing in her hair, necessitating a shower. This is a great smoke.

A few weeks ago I had my once every 18 months dose of nicotine: 4 large Cuban cigars on a Friday evening, I was buzzing off the effect all weekend. One seriously mellow feeling that lasted until Sunday evening. Shame about the constant stale cigar taste in my mouth though.

Very nice shapes, Arnathor. My father had a couple of Savanellis, Petersons and some danish ones. Looked very nice but I prefer a good habana: “The most futile and disastrous day seems well spent when it is reviewed through the blue, fragrant smoke of a Havana cigar.” (Evelyn Waugh)
