Yeah, Harrolds is a hoot. I went there a few months ago and saw coats for $10,000 a piece. They were stunning Tom Ford shawl lapel dinner jackets. Would have loved to have bought one, but where would l wear it?....maybe l could have worn it to the farm on the weekends. It was a real high society coat for very important people.

I remember this shop in Sydney used to sell $28,000 Gucci alligator boots about 10 years ago and $60,000 Hermes' alligator handbags about 25 years ago. And of course Borelli used to have those $12,000 norvegese alligator shoes in Melbourne that l was tempted to get but eventually chickened out like a typical pleb. No guts no glory mate. Then again, sometimes it's better to have no glory in these cases.

It's the type of shoe Fritz would wear.Ie, it's BIG, it's f-a-t, it's solid, it's an alt wien, it has tough leather, it's a brown derby, it's got goiser stitching...it's got ALL the aspects of the higher levels of manhood.

The half brogue is the most manly shoe of them all imo. The half brogue oxford in black polished leather is very grand and pompous and serious, and the half brogue derby in dark brown with a double sole allows one to be a pure no nonsense man without the head kicking pompous front required of the half brogue black oxford. .

My problem isn't the colors its the sizing. I wear a EEE, with a difficult to fit foot, and have LONG since given up on buying shoes through the mail after spending close to $1000 shipping fancy shoes and boots around the globe. Now, if I can't try them on in person and around the house, I just don't even bother.

I appreciate the offer though.

they make a nice whole cut dress boot but not in a wide last

Yeah, it's a big gamble and bound to end in failure much of the time. I'd rather pay double or more the price locally and make sure the pair fits instead of gamble online. It's nice to buy from a local shop and develop a relationship with someone in person.

How about tracing your foot and sending it to people who would have some clue such as Eva vass, St Crispins, Ronny Rider and folks like that. Also could send the foot traces to some other workshops and factories. You could email them and get a specific contact, send the traces to a specific contact, do the follow up and organise a pair to be sent out.

Yep, a nice `tambo' in brown alligator leather would do the trick nicely. A good casual boot for the garden.

The book ahas sizing and models and variations etc - I meant colour only in that the book is in colour.

Yep, almost always a failure. I'm not wearing anything but sneakers these days so I'm not really in the market, but once I do start dressing like an adult again I could look one of them up. When I get to my travels I'd like to visit Vass in person.

I'm sure they could. Its just not something I need right now. I don't even wear the boots that I already do own.

Red Wing's are tough. They only make a few models in EEE and none of them are particularly attractive. Their 2E is very narrow in the forefoot so it doesn't work.

I'll bite - I wear a 10.5 3E in Wolverine 1000 mile, 10.5 3E in certain Allen Edmonds lasts (with some judicious stretching of the forefoot), and a 11 2E in LLBean Kathadin's.
