WDYBT: What Did You Buy Today

I promise you NMWA doesn't fuel their business from bottom-feeders like me. I simply bought a pair of quality boots from a reliable vendor because they are at a price I can relatively afford and in line with the direction my style is going in. I shared it here because there is a thread that is designed to do things like that.

What is "the grand scheme" of things here? We have people buying handmade purple wingtips in Australia to Chinese dudes rocking 600$ spaceboot Converses in Kansas. Also, the denim that I wear is by Rag & Bone. I guess I am shilling for them now too?

I truly don't understand your angst or where you are trying to go with this. I realize you are a veteran member, but I simply don't see the point in choosing "sides."

Very shilly.

Walker is an algorithm, not an actual person. I have already made a compelling case for this in relation to his reactions to shoe-related threads/conversations. Read the forum before you attribute emotions or feelings to what is essentially a robot.

if you have to ask? anyway ...

probably bad luck that wanker delight is top ranked in a buttero google search, I dunno ... does it really matter?

definitely no angst. no veteran either - mostly on a hiatus recently. even the bat signal doesn't work. not sure which side I've chosen, but we should leave it at that.

peace.

So Lord Buckley Lord Buckley can you explain about T&A Shirts please.

They're great, the best on Jermyn Street. Expensive, yes, overly so? Quite possibly. This is the problem of Savile Row and Jermyn Street in London. These entities are paying, certainly on the Row for the size of say, Gieves & Hawkes, in the region of GBP 100,000 rent a month. You need to be pushing some shirts and bespoke stuff to make that pass go, let alone profit.

Three positives that swing me to T&A as my favoured shirt maker:
1. Superlative Thomas Mason cloth patterns and colours that you won't see anywhere else in the seasonal ranges.
2. T&A collar, always distinctive and stands outside of fashion and the effete collars of other makers.
3. Fit of RTW options are the ideal for me, no need for bespoke here.

Their ties are good too, but are bug chunky thick buggers, so sometimes you need a more refined weave.

The other shirt maker I use is the diplomats favourite in The Hague, F.G. van den Heuvel, been around since 1881. You can get some good stuff in there, but you can also walk out looking like a country squire with farmers shirts and ties with pheasants and hunting dogs on. You know that very English look and remains popular here amongst old money types of a certain age.

Thanks - point me to something that explains the T&A collar in detail?

I usually stay at Des Indes when I'm there, so I have walked passed it many times, always liked the windows. Will try next time.

Sorry - I just looked at their site. It seems to me its slightly higher than your usual collar and has a moderate spread with longish collar points - say 3" +? and has about 1/2" of tie space.

Aye, I would wear that in the winter.

This is interesting, the British MP Jacob Rees-Mogg attends the Oktoberfest in his best Tristan Farnon country gear and the German takes offence at his clobber, the action starts at 1:40:

* bengal stripe dark blue/white shirt (Turnbull & Asser) with classic collar.
* bengal stripe medium blue/white shirt (Isaia)

Both are stunners and the T&A is a total trip mate (the traditional collar and three button cuffs, wow). Never owned T&A, very unique. I can see why the elites have a love for such shirts, real power shirts.

I don't buy anything anymore but I just plonked down for this Lord Buckley Lord Buckley

Just arrived today. Great soft lightweight tweed. Feels like a cardigan. Window pane is far less pronounced than the pic - in fact hard to see from more than a metre away. Just need to take up sleeves an inch or two and maybe bring in the body. In an ideal world it might be 1/2" shorter. It was on sale so in many ways it was a trial run for some of H&J other stuff. So far so good.

Sourpuss 25% off today - picked up an M12 Made in England Fred Perry polo for $60 shipped.

Also got another three CT shirts for $99.

* light gray Canali wool trousers
* brand new original cashmere made-in-scotland Ballantyne "V-neck pullover from the high-end hand-knit intarsia collection" (retailed for over 1k in the old days)
* two vintage second hand made-in-scotland Ballantyne v neck cashmere sweaters.

I must say l am in for a real treat this winter. Some say Ballantyne used to make the best cashmere jumpers ever, but regardless l look forward to the Ballantyne experience and having the opportunity to wear argyles of extremely high quality.

I bought a real classic argyle Ballantyne jumper (sweater) from a local bloke made for the old highend Georges store in my town. This jumper was apparently well used and is over 40 years old. When l received it i was AMAZED!!! The jumper is in excellent condition and not one sign of pilling anywhere! It has the most classic of argyle patterns. A try bargain for one of the highest quality jumpers you will ever see. Fits perfect and looks brand new.

The Ballantyne is a tighter knit indeed and more sturdy than Johnstons of Elgin. Certainly not as soft as my other cashmere, and this is probably a good thing because it is `unfinished' which helps it's durability according to my understanding. Not fluffy like the Johnstons, just pure tight knit that is clean with no fluff at all. Feels almost as sturdy as a wool jumper, but not quite.

Got 4 more to be delivered. One cream, one dark gray and two more classic argyles.

Was also looking at getting a 3 - 4 ply purple Ballantyne brand new old stock (STUNNING), but I get the feeling it may be too tight so l passed.

btw, all my Johnstons has pilled a little bit, but not excessively. My `so called' up market aussie made Henry Bucks jumper has pilled like crazy.

old ballantyne = best cashmere jumpers ever made. I have a new old stock camel colored v neck and it is superior to my Lockies, which are also very good, but not quite as dense.
