WDYBT: What Did You Buy Today

I think it would be alright. At the very least, it would be good to know the insider knowledge about foxxed cuffs and all of that. FNB knows all the insider info of the sartorial secrets of the ultra elites, but l don't know hardly any so it would be good to know some stuff. The clues elites send out through their clothing is an interesting subject, especially the ultra elite old money types.

Foxing = frayed shirt cuffs. You are so elite that you demonstrate your oneness with your bespoke shirt's glorious tissue by wearing it still even though it is frayed.

It is the same principle with a Barbour that you have worn out yourself, waxed it over the years, had it mended etc.
What the kids do today, is buying new and not rewaxing or finding a old one someone else have worn in already.

Everybody can buy a new shirt, only those in the know, will buy a good shirt and wear it even if foxing.

I find shirts with an exaggerated #igent #collar-roll with #longpoints too CM and formal to wear with jeans or chinos. I didn't buy either of these to wear with a tie.

The length of the collar points determines formality? So with a white tie dress code one would wear super long collar points? Olololol

No I get they are casual shirts. Though I think longer collar points aren't iGent as much as they are iVy, and IMO can be worn casually and with a tie. That said I have some cheap puny collar button downs myself to wear under sweaters or to the beach.

stop trolling

Oh come on, his statement was absurd. Making up idiotic rules like the length of your collar determines whether a shirt can be worn with jeans is as #igent #menswear as it gets. It reminds me of dieworkwear with his weird set of rules.

no it wasn't. you're not going to wear a shirt with giant point collars and a pair of jeans, are you?

He's talking about buttondown collars. Ivy style collars are fine with denim. Rambo reading comprehension for this post: C-

I think everyone understood my point except for you. And if you don't, let's agree to disagree.

FWIW, I think your CM style is on point. It's just not personally what I'm into for myself anymore because I never have context to wear it in. In Boston anything more than cargo shorts is "dressed up."

On a side note, the homeless people in Paris dress better than 95% of Americans. Fashion seems to be a big part of life here across all age groups.

Wool/mohair. I hope the mohairs don't break!

Some of the NOS Holliday & Brown ties that I've recently picked up (TOP TOP™ English manu-facture), along with a Battistoni that I've received as a gift. (The colors look a little washed-out, especially at the top, but it should work.)

Chaps. Advice earnestly sought:

These?

Or these?

Essentially the difference is one of colour.

I prefer the latter but am concerned they will be the suede equivalent of tan shoes which look good off and awful on.

To be worn with jeans/washed chinos.

i'd be more partial to the 2nd lighter ones but i suppose it would depend on the color of the outfit. on the whole though, i find those more appealing.

I think they were photographed better which can be deceptive...

I like the second pair more, however I'm not sure if they'll work with gray trousers.

Not too light to wear with navy trousers you reckon? This is my main concern.

Get dark brown, much more versatile. Won't show stains as easily either. Light brown is more for summertime only, something which london doesn't really have.

I think the ape has it. The lighter ones are veh sexy though.

The darker ones are Herring; anyone know who Herring uses for their goodyear Spanish shoos?

Light might look good in staged pics, but not on your feet in dreary London. They're lovely while you're on vacation, combined with the likes of white linen trousers and such, but rather limited otherwise.

I agree with Monkeyface Monkeyface , get dark brown. Wil be more flexible with a variety of pants. Get scissors and cut tassels too.

I didn't buy any clothes but I did buy three triggers for my studio strobes. :)

Pauly is not alone. Crusty has brogued loafers too.

I have always LOVED the designs of Crusty's shoos, especially double brogued loafers and monks in black. I also love Crusty's coat and wonderful cords. Those cords are nice and wide legged and thick, and Crusty inspired me to go to henry Bucks today and buy a couple of pairs in identicle style. I LOVE thick wide legged cords.

- navy blue wide legged thick cords (made in Garmany) - like Crusty's
- tan wide legged thick cords (made in Germany) - like Crusty's.

btw, my dream of owning murky creek green cords and red like Crusty's would make life extra good, but l am working on a plan to get those soon.

Crusty's double broued tassle loafers are indeed a delight to my eyes. Crusty is very lucky he is able to get all those types of things where he lives, and probably decent prices. In Oz the pickings are scarce and the prices very high.
