What TV Shows Are You Watching?

Ok I'll make it easy - Do you Monkeyface watch early morning TV chat shows? Do you know anyone who does?

I know lots of different types of people of all age groups and different classes in society - I still don't know anyone who watches morning tv "chat" shows. I know young parents with little kids who often have cartoons etc on in the morning but not these shows. That's why I'm asking. Even the ratings don't really show that many people watch.

I get up too early for the morning shows, but I can imagine if you’re the type that has plenty of time for breakfast before work it might be nice to see the local news and traffic updates and such.

The figures for the breakfast TV shows in the UK are dreadful, no one is watching them, everyone's reading the news online or watching the citizen journalists and commentators, some of whom have higher ratings and subscriptions than the legacy media. The revolution is happening.

Watched the last episode of the second series of Narcos last night. Excellent. They got everything right: realistic script, casting and location. Even the love angle between Pablo and his wife is tastefully done. No melodramatics.

I quite like that Judy Moncada character, my kind of lady that Cristina Umana.

I thought the concept was for suburban mothers. The Today show on NBC is what..a four hour show.

It’s a little slow for the first four eps then it kicks up a bit.

One difference with these streaming shows is that they don't have to hit a plot device or some kind of special event every hour. The first two episodes were completely dedicated to building up the character because there wasn't a need to beat Nielsen ratings.

‘Gunpowder’ BBC 3 partner about Guy Fawkes attempt to blow up parliament. Lots of graphic death and torture which will get it headlines. Diversity is forced into the series too - a black actor plays a ‘scribe’. (In 1605? I don’t think so)

season three has been completely boring and meaningless so far. i honestly have no idea what the fuck they're doing any longer.

This. I have no idea what I’m watching anymore.

By contrast, walking Dead is playing it safe with a plodding storyline this season.

4 episodes into stranger things season 2. it definitely picks up where season 1 lets off both with the story and with the quality. lets hope it keeps it up.

finished stranger things s2. very good. i'd say slightly below season 1 but we're talking A vs. A- here. if you like S1 then you'll like S2.

Mindhunter wasn't that bad. Cinematography was great. I still didn't quite get the Park City, Kansas guy - so he actually turned into a serial killer?

Last show was a bit frustrating for me. In a behavioural science team that featured people who could use intuition or data to predict human motivation and psychology, wasn't it blatantly clear who leaked the tape in the team? Maybe not the FBI (asst?) director but surely the other smart brains could figure it out.

yes the whole kansas setup was handled poorly. iirc he goes on to be their first big serial killer case.

Has anyone seen the Dean Corll movie yet?

Started watching the documentary series on the Windsor Royal family this afternoon, very well done.

Has anyone made it to the end of Outlander? It’s my ‘gym show’ but even at that low standard it is dragging to the point of boring me shitless.

Blue Planet 2. BBC documentary series about the ocean.

Made me miss the Red Sea. Used to be a great place for diving before the big troubles with terrorism.

Season 1 was interesting, of season 2 I watched the last two episodes.
I watched one of the earlier episodes of season 3, more out of boredom.
Season 3 is (even) more to the taste of the lonely cat ladies/ feminists with romantic sex scenes and that love talk.

Yes it’s been awful so far.

One ep into Comrade Detective and I’m liking it. Might grow old fast but so far so good.

some tv updates:

berlin station season 2 has been good so far. if you like those cia/spy inner working/on the ground type shows its a good one. not much in the way of action, more politics and intrigue.

dirk gently season 2 continues to be ridiculous and incomprehensible. i will continue to watch.

starting on gomorrah the italian mob show as my new foreign fix.

the deuce is a slow burn. i know its from david simon but i get absolutely none of the feeling of what made the wire so good. i'll keep going through season one but im not expecting anything more than maggie gylenhall's floppy sweet potato tits.

if anyone has new foreign shows worth watching please post the recommendations. i do love me some subtitles and most american tv is dogshit these days.

I think it would have been a stretch to continue without Kevin Spacey's character anyway. What would the story line be? Claire Underwood lets her husband the former President rot in jail?
Probably that or an assasination

Okay. And then Claire fights with Petrov? The newspaper guy? It does suck for the people who were chosen to be next season's cast and then abandoned because of one man's actions.

Howard’s End. BBC four parter of EM Forster novel. Edwardian middle class problems. Diversity forced into the casting. Nice shots of Myddelton Square though.

New series of ‘Peaky Blinders’. They are up against the Italian mafia.
For periodic authenticity they should be up against Glasgow knife gangs.....

Still trying unsuccessfully to get into The Crown.

The Italian Mafia sure has more style.

Strike Back is back with season 6. New team but similar plot. This time jihadist wife on a mission to bring down the West.
Whoever trained the terrorists was not worth the money.

A bit late to the party I know but I have just got done watching the first season. The guy in Kansas is Dennis Rader - The BTK Killer. He wasn't caught until 2005 I believe so they're playing a bit of a long game with that.

The Crown. Second series. I'm so in love, but it's that last season for Claire Foy.

The Punisher was good.

Watching Godless which has started out pretty good. I always like a good oater

She went to my old alma mater. I much prefer the actress who plays Princess Margaret, she has some sultry sophistication going.

You seem to go for the sultry types. I reckon there's a type of woman you gravitate to, and then there's a type of woman who ends up being the companion for the rest of your life.
