What TV Shows Are You Watching?

been watching Yellowstone. one of the more insane series i've ever seen. its equal parts incredible, interesting, majestic, boring, and just nuts.

watched the first 4 episodes of Poker Face with Natasha Lyonne. i know people seem to be really into this one but it seems to be too clever by half. he's just not a very good director.

I finished Firefly Lane. The second season is now split in two so there is a third season waiting to be released. If people didn't like the jumping around timelines the technique continues to be used heavily to fill in the blanks in the past and advance the plot in the present. Anyway, it is one of those feel good shows carried mainly by Katherine Heigl but seems to cover every TV drama item out there: gay brother coming out of the closet versus potentially gay daughter, couple divorced finding a reason to get back together, sex abuse in youth and later at work, etc. etc.

I started The Devil’s Hour lastnight. I’m still very confused about what is going on but it is very good. Two eps in and safe to say that this is a solid recommendation for anyone looking for a compelling dark mystery full of well developed characters.
Update: excellent bit of sci-fi drama from the Brits.

Season 3. Though as I said before here, I find the Beth character cartoonish.
she is but she's infinitely better than the Jaime character. i despise watching him grovel on screen constantly so much so that i just started actively skipping through his scenes.

plus, she's hot as fuck.

I’d forgotten about this one. I saw the first season a few years ago and then it dropped off my radar - I’d assumed it was discontinued. A psychiatrist a priest and a scientist Scooby Gang investigate a demonic conspiracy. They made a good attempt to add depth to the characters and the bad guy is fairly interesting. Nothing too original here but it is a cut above most commercial TV series. 7/10. I’ll watch the new two seasons between stuff that I am more interested in.

I'm up to date. it stays slightly above watchable and keeps your interest. not the greatest show in the world, and they keep the religious moralizing down to a somewhat tolerable level. at this point though, i'm not really sure where they go from here unless they go full demon invasion/possession. now if they ram up this vatican/cia/secret squad angle it could be interesting, but i'm not sure they will.

Period whodunnit that is light and fun and fairly predictable. Good cast, main character is pretty and the Victorian Piedmont scenery is very pretty. 7.5/10

I just started Slow Horses and it’s definitely going to hold my attention. It may be Le Carre-lite, but it is still a delight.

Started this over the wknd.

A family of drug traffickers spend much of the summer in a trailer/caravan park type area. The cops need a plan on getting close to them in order to make a case.

They get an undercover couple to move next door and slowly try to bond with the family/friends. It doesn't always work as the male cop has a real life family and the female is a "wild card". They don't always agree on how they should go about getting close.

Up to Ep 4 or 10. Not a bad watch so far.

Rating to follow....

Quite enjoyed this. Some good tension and highlights a part of the world you don't see that often.

finally got around to watching the new season of Borgen. Not as good as the first three seasons but it was still enjoyable for a politics based series.

Watching the new BBC mini series called The Gold. Great cast. Half way through and it’s been excellent so far.

I watched Everything Calls for Salvation. Initially I left it on the background whilst cooking because I didn't think the plot would go anywhere interesting. It's about a young man, Daniele, who gets drunk, gets high, goes to a club and parties more, gets even more high and then wakes up in a psychiatric institution with some pretty crazy patients. He has no idea why he was there other than it's a week long involuntary treatment until he starts realising as the drugs get out of his system and some daily therapy with the doctors that he had come home from his night out and did something violent to his parents with whom he still lives with. As he discovers why his fellow patients are there, he starts making peace with his actions and in the middle of his week he accidentally bumps into a former classmate named Nina who is now a social influencer/actress in the female wing of the ward. She's in the same boat - involuntarily committed. They escape for a bit to the roof with the help of his patient friends, have sex, then get caught and meet up again outside after some born again vows.

People should watch it just to see Fotini Peluso's tantrums...

tried watching the first few episodes of the new appletv show Hello Tomorrow. painfully dull and boring. i won't bother with this one.

looks like Snowfall is back for a 6th season surprisingly.

Set in the 1960s in Rome, Rosa the daughter of a wealthy family goes to the carnival with her brother, boyfriend and the boyfriend's brother. Rosa decides to get her fortune told by another young girl, Nora, who happened to be substituting that night for Nora's grandmother. Rosa asks about her twin sister Adele who disappeared when they were toddlers and should be recognizable because of a birthmark. Nora secretly believes this sounds familiar but rushes Rosa out. When Rosa forgets her wallet, the boyfriend's brother Simone comes back to retrieve it and sees Nora changing and the butterfly birthmark that Rosa talked about. The show then goes into a self-discovery story for Nora as she tries to probe her grandmother and father about her deceased mother and what her past was. There are parallel stories with Rosa's brother becoming an aspiring actor, Nora's uncle returning to the carnival troupe, Simone falling in love with Nora, etc but it all somehow ties together in the end with a strange deus ex machina ending begging for a second season.

But the reason why you should watch this is for Simona Tabasco.

Daddario can’t act, but she is kinda pretty. I’m about to start episode 4 and I still have no idea what’s going on, but it is holding my interest. 7/10 so far

I finished the first season of Framed.

Salvo and Valentino let themselves into an apartment for a television repair job. As Valentino goes to the washroom he finds the owner's dead body slumped over a tub and a gun and accidentally fires off shots leaving his prints on the gun. Salvo, being a crime show enthusiast, then comes up with the idea to wipe down everything and leave the apartment until they're trapped by building maintenance men outside the front door and later on some Christian evangelists. To add insult to injury, Salvo's wife (and Valentino's sister) Ester leaves an amorous voicemail that suggests Salvo is a cuckold. The men are caught between the mafia extracting further favours from them and proving their innocence in front the police including Valentino's childhood sweetheart Agata played by native Sicilian Mariana Di Martino.

Rewatching Ted Lasso before S3 drops. It is still hilarious second time around.

Is it REALLY worth the watch? Haven't watched 1 sec of the show.

I liked it. But no one has recently bought Apple devices for me to get free trials with Apple TV so I likely won't see the third one. I think you need to like footy and have bit of understanding of cultural cliches from across the pond. Some of the humour plays on the fish out of water experience of the titular character.
