What TV Shows Are You Watching?

stumbled into Future Man on Hulu. this is pretty fucking funny so far. about 5 episodes in. stars peeta from the hunger games movie, the hot funny one from that ensemble show, and some other guy.

Will be in the North East in Summer and I was trying to find out about Berwick on Tweed.

Subsequently found Alec Clifton-Taylor documentaries from the 70s and 80s on YouTube. They are proper Lord Reith-inspired BBC stuff (educate and inform etc.).Put an expert on and don’t worry if he sounds elitist. Old school Received Pronunciation. I now want to go to quite a few other places on his programmes too. Far better than Portillo.

Yes, it is nostalgia and escapism for someone living in the global city of London.

Been watching Dope on Netflix. Someone warned me Baltimore was bad, now I know why!

Curious distortions of the human form laid low by heroin and street drugs, they look like they've got spastic gaits amongst other ravaging physical ailments. Reminds me a bit, but much much worse, of the human freaks you would see street walking or trying to steal from the local Kwik Save supermarket in the North End of Birkenhead by the docks in the early and mid 1990s.

At least they get up early

Finished Future Man. The humor was dumb but it was fun throughout. I’d recommend it if you want a fast casual watch.

Watched the last episode of Dope yesterday, it was about the crack heads and turf wars in Chicago's west side. A lesson in human depravity, no I'm not talking about the drugs and shootings, but who in the right mind would have gone with that transgender prostitute?

On Netflix:

Top Boy - quite a good UK series on drug/thug life

Animal Kingdom - have three more episodes but I quite like it. The US series version of the Australian animal Kingdom film about a fucked up crime family

'GOmorrah' - excellent series on mafia crime. Italian but subtitled. Season 1 and 2 is sizzling stuff. Season 3 is in in two days

Daniel Craig killed the Bond franchise off for me. And the missus and kids are not impressed either.

The thing with Bond, you have to be able to pull off that aristocratic Naval Commander presence and all I got from Daniel Craig was council house foreman navvie or scaffolder done good.

Oh...I like Craig, he's the first Bond to be his own Bond Girl.

I Used to drink in his old man's pub 'The Boot Inn'

Just watched the last 3 /new episodes of League Of Gentleman last night while waiting and watching for the super dooper blue blood moon eclipse.
Well done. Funny

You seen the original?

Theres a lot of good Australian crime: Try "Chopper" - film.
"Fatal Shore" TV movie.
The Jack Irish series on TV - lighter and humorous but noirish authentic Melbourne.
The early episodes of "Underbelly" - true Melbourne

Don't forget Blue Murder. Better than all of those.

Dirty Money on Netflix. Overseen by Alex Gibney who has done some amazing documentaries over the last 10 years.

Six 1-hour documentary episodes of some interesting subjects:

  1. VW's diesel cheat
  2. Scott Tucker's payday loan scam that touched 1% of the US population
  3. Big Pharma's drug price gouging and the takedown of Valeant by short sellers
  4. HSBC's money laundering (for terrorists and the cartels) deal with the US. Stipulating to criminal charges and just paying a fine.
  5. The Great Canadian Maple Syrup Cartel & Heist
  6. How phone Trump's true business legacy is and how everything he touches withers and dies. Some really interesting video from his law suit depositions.

The VW diesel cheat is the perfect example that the German-centric EU is far from benevolent. I will never buy another VW on account of this.

Second series of Fargo for me, tremendous.

how would you rate the episodes on the whole?

how would you rate the episodes on the whole?

All well done. Very good cinematography. Fisher Stevens directs one of them. Like little films.

The VW one is good. Corporate entitlement and evil at its best and most arrogant.

The Scott Tucker one is really good because he is so sure he is being fucked over by the government but he is a sack of shit.

The Valeant one again is excellent showing the takedown and the arrogance of the CEO and Bill Adkins the hedge fund guy.

HSBC is interesting as it shows how Holder and Breuer sold their souls to not piss off Wall Street so they could return to lucrative partnerships.

The maple syrup one is perversely funny and goofy but the people are treated with respect whereas they could have been savaged.

Trump is Trump. Nothing really new except it does a good job tracking the sleaze.

finished gamorrah season 3. the first 1/2 - 2/3 of the season were pretty boring but the final few episodes were pretty good. was really shocked at the finale. some great acting on that boat. i really hoped they were going to kill genny and not the other character.

Altered Carbon is a complete failure.
i wouldn't say it was a failure but it definitely wasn't as interesting as i'd hoped it was going to be. lots of nipples. the underlying concept of the stack and skins was fascinating to think about.

Bron Broen ends its run tonight. sad to see this one go as its fucking fantastic.

+1. TBH, I was mostly distracted (and annoyed) by the obvious plastic surgery of the Latina detective character.

Out of curiosity I watched the first four episodes of "Black Lightning"!
What kind of useless "superhero" is that? Kicks and punches and a slightly juiced up taser?
Police is useless and corrupt, all the black women are angry all the time and show off their big butts (isn't that kind of sexist?).
BL's daytime suits fit awful despite having an (Italian) tailor as a friend. How much does that guy charge for a suit to be able to afford all that high-tech stuff in his basement?

Where are you watching Bron/Broen? Been busy so haven't seen the last three episodes.

Brilliant show indeed.

Each time i think superhero shoes/movies have had its day. Out comes another from the unending conveyor belt of garbage.

Torrents. The Pirate Bay has a nice copy every week with hard coded English subs.

as sexy as she was i could definitely live with that distraction.

its good if you watch it less as a superhero show and more as a detective/urban drama type show. i enjoy its for its takes on the black community and neighborhoods but its certainly nothing special.

the bron broen finale was incredible. the danish don't know how good they've got it over there.

The ITV period costume drama Victoria. Good acting, locations and none of the Beeb's virtue signalling you get in BBC equivalents these days.

It's also on a smaller network (The CW), so it won't have a big budget to work with. It seems to be a trend that "superhero" shows turn more and more into family dramas.

The proportions are off. too. Short legs/ long torso, big head and narrow hips don't go well with enhanced boobs.
Some people appear to complain about the nudity and (of course) the main character being a white male.

I try not to watch Canadian shows. This is similar to Murdoch Mysteries where everyone outside of Canada watches it but not many inside watch it.

See. That's why we are friends. We think exactly alike!
