What's Making You Happy Today?

The bartender at my watering hole down the street has reached her sapphire jubilee. I've always dropped off flowers, or chocolates, and the occasional bottle to commemorate it after eleven years of patronage. Today I walked in mid afternoon, and I found a big picture of her with her boss and all her coworkers at a sister establishment signing in the frame around it. She had already received gifts and other treats. Some of the usual patrons had already come by to, I imagine like myself, leave outrageous gratuity.

In fact, I was seated at the bar with another chap from last week when I mentioned it was her special day today and he actually came before me (maybe because he had a flight to catch).

As we toasted her, the general manager of the hotel and all department heads (chef, sales, everyone...) came in to sing happy birthday and gave her a cake decorated with candles. I was asked by a man dressed in black tie (not really sure which area he works because I never see anyone dressed in black tie anymore at this establishment) to take a piece in her honour.

To compound that, it's 18c today & sunny in February in Canada. Day of days.

I was returning from grocery shopping and noticed someone trailing me to my building. Normally I'm quickest to open the door with the fob and I hold it for whomever was behind. Anyway, it turns out it was my neighbour.

She's hot for a mid 30s Italian. New permed hair, shortened to her shoulder with blonde highlights. It shows she works in marketing or outreach for yoga stuff and if I gave a toss about charity, our paths would cross more.

She dragged home bags of fresh veg and I dragged home bags of meat to marinate.

It's too bad she is moving out. When I was travelling, she was here. When I stopped travelling, she travelled. Paths just never crossed.

Ah, you just gave your age away! 35+

If they are alpha males and successful, most definitely yes!

In fact, in my considerable experience, I believe women are genetically predisposed to for perceived power and wealth over good looks every time. Although my missus read an article in a Dutch women's magazine on the joys of having an autistic husband the other day.

he would like you to believe that with his cagey AgeCosPlay. Early 30's chronologically. Early 20's LiverAge

Other way around. Liver of a 45y old in a 35y old body. Early 20s liver means its still pristine, untouched by the years of drinking cheap liquor.

Fwif signed the organ donation form but so far no takers.

No one is taking my organs. They will have to pry them from my cold dead fingers.

That said I often pass by this blood donor clinic and I was once asked by the gent standing outside to come in and make a donation. I was almost tempted but reminded him I had a couple glasses of wine and a brandy so my blood ought to only go to those in pain.

I'm just having one good day after another with all the women. I reckon I should relish the good times.

Fwiffo Fwiffo drinks like a fish! I witnessed this... and nearly passed out in the elevator after trying to keep up with him.

That is physically not believable as you are taller and weigh more than me.

And I believe I needed to go to the bathroom and upon coming out the night cap was over. I didn't know you were about to hurl.

I believe it Fwiffers. I'm twice your size and I'd probably drop dead trying to match you.

That reminds me of one of my former directs who was twice my size and wanted to beat, not just match, me. Suffice to say he didn't make it into the office until late morning the next day.

That said, Arnathor was a good lad - he actually declared early he had a 6am start and skipped two or three rounds and only did one drink versus two for the road.

You hear that Arnathor Arnathor ? You've got the Fwiffo seal of approval.

How did the man is alive and not an axe murderer turn into a seal of approval? He could still be into dodgy porn.

Fwiffo is a good guy, even bought a square from me some time back.

Aye, I did. But I won't given it is minimal in financial compensation and takes away from time spent on your girlfriend. Measured in hours as I recall.

Hand sewing still takes about 2-3 hours.

11 years ago I came to the US on a working holiday, mostly to get away, clear my head and work through some issues. I started writing a book about my wartime experiences which was cathartic. Then I met my now-wife and the book stopped while I agreed to stay here longer.

Yesterday I got back to writing. It does me good and I hope one day it will see the light of day. I'd probably do better flipping burgers after hours for money, but it's more for my own peace of mind and a long letter to my kids about their dad today and about their futures.

I caught up with this coworker who came from my old firm. When I started there, she was there. Then she left for our current company and I left a year later in totally unrelated departures. For awhile in the new firm we sat together along with people I poached from our old firm so it felt like home again. She's quitting and moving on now. I wish I had the courage to follow.

why wish? do it and go make yourself happy.

She's going to a big UK insurance firm that is part of this suburb's revitalization 30km away - new buildings etc. I don't particularly want to go up there. Most insurance firms are moving back downtown from suburban campuses but the suburbs fits her commute so it's better for her. I should try my luck across the street from where I live as AIG, Marsh, Royal Sun Alliance and Chubb are all a stone's throw away.

I'm waiting for my bonus before I think of anything.

Gym every day: I'm looking ripped like someone half my age.

Plus, surprised myself to still be churning out pages on the Great Australian Autobiographic Novel.

And my kids are incredibly cute.

Work is really going well.

Doesn't matter if the rest if fucked, life is good.

And you're losing hair decades slower than me mate. It must be all the testosterone or DHT diverted to your strength and weight regimen.

why wait? isn't it better to start looking now? find a head hunter?

I did last year. Headhunter teed up the wrong job but word got out in the industry I was interviewing at a competitor. Insurance is an incestuous industry and some firms can be vindictive.
