What's Making You Happy Today?

Getting my haircut with my usual barber on a Saturday morning whilst some other customer next to me is getting a straight razor shave. All the while Sinatra's singing My Way.

Morning coffe with the best ever politician.

A person laid off from my department two years ago found a temporary three month contract back in the same field. He had been working in retail before that - although he had some family issues and a full year's severance so it was a bit of a reprieve. I get to meet him this weekend and finally let him buy me a meal. My promise after his firing was that I'd check in on him once every few months and pay for the meal until he got a proper job.

In addition, I can tell him a manager at my competitor who used to work for me is interested in taking him on full-time. Not glamorous pay, but not unemployed either.

Finally, we are getting a top, top mosque. No more shitholes in strip malls. Ooh, the put up the minaret this week!

Looking forward to how this wonderous place of worship will help integration of Islam in the area. Nothing like a giant mosque to alleviate the fears of farmers.

There's a mosque without a minaret near one of the driving ranges close to my parents' house. My father and me were hitting balls a few years ago and suddenly there would be a call for prayer on a loudspeaker. Needless to say after my father went through that, we've never been back to that range since. We go to the one down the road where a quieter house dedicated to Zoroaster resides.

Today I was contacted by Allied Universal Security about an open Director position. These are the guys who are fielding the totally-not-Daleks Knightscope K5 and K3 autonomous security machines.

If I get this job I will, no shit, command a robot army.

Just make sure when the shooting "we" all shoot in the right direction.

My first thought was to reprogram those fuckers every April Fool's Day and have them run around the facility going, "EXTERMINATE . . . EXTERMINATE . . ."

I went with my mate's family including his two daughters. I had to entertain a baby and a loquacious Grade 2 girl. Made for an interesting and chaotic dinner but at least it took my mind off work issues.

Work crisis is over. Back to the other 50 weeks of the year for my work life doing people management and three martini lunches.

got the plumber out here and talked my way into a fix for both the valve and the outside hose for $100. normally its almost $250 for both things.

I doubt you'd get a plumber here to even make a visit under $180

Ivanka Trump is less snobby than I thought. She seems to have a real connection without the sniffles.

mmh - its all a bit relative........

But -
$100 USD = $131.42 Australian Dollar

From 2015
ARE you always complaining about how expensive things are in Australia compared to the rest of the world?

Well, the fourth addition of the Deutsche Bank report into world prices is out and it provides an interesting insight into our hip pocket.

By analysing the cost of certain goods in every country such as a Big Mac, pair of Levi jeans and an iPhone, the report showed just how much more expensive it is to shop in Australia compared to the rest of the world. But it might not be as much as you think.

A key finding of this year’s survey is the extent to which exchange rate movements impacted prices. In previous years, Australia had consistently been the world’s most expensive developed country while the United States had been the cheapest developed country. This year, however, the strength of the US dollar has significantly narrowed the gap between the two.

Meanwhile, India remains the cheapest major economy in the world while shopping in Europe and Japan now feels a lot cheaper than before.

A popular metric is the Big Mac barometer which shows the cheapest place to buy the famous burger. That illustrious honour went to the Ukraine this year at $1.20 USD closely followed by Russia at $1.36 USD. You won’t want to satisfy your Macca’s craving in Switzerland since a single burger will set you back $7.54 USD. For the record, a Big Mac in Australia is $4.32 USD.

With the sounds of Duke Ellington and the big band days.

Baseball fever convinced them for the first time in six years to install a television but good thing that's gone.

It's just me, the alcohol and ruminating in a bar with my suit and tie.

On the bright side, you can see where your tax money went. Or did the poor refugees pay for this themselves?

fwiffo - tell me more - got a google maps reference? - it sounds a bit weird

19 Grand Truck Crescent Toronto to 10 York Street Toronto

It's the two with the saucer looking top: http://lanterradevelopments.com/project/ice-condominiums-at-york-centre/

If you do street view - walking, not by car - on Google Maps, you can start from where it says 19 - that's a dead end service road just for those two buildings. Then you get to the weird yellow house and the roundabout for Ice which is still as of today not even finished - must be at least a year or more since they topped off and people started moving in 18 (24?) months ago before topping off.

Go along the street and you see a surface parking lot, that's where the construction crew staged themselves. Now it's a parking lot until it gets paved over for a 30 something storey building. But this is the back. The official street address is on York Street where it's sandwiched between in front of one of two busiest on ramps to the highway hence it's not a good place for cabs and limos to drop you off.

That's also that entrance where you can walk right in. I've done it once before to cut across to my side of the crescent. They had a fire in the back a year or so ago - blazing off one of the balconies. The amenities inside I have no insight on. My dentist, thanks to clean teeth from people like me, bought a few units to rent out as an investment.

The sad thing is at 10 York in between the two highways an even taller building will be going up and will block the lake view of the folks who bought (ironically) the taller Ice suites.

I know this is a very Canadian thing to say but it's only going to be 2c tonight with less than 15km/h winds. That should be tolerable for my lined trench coat in absence of any winter garments.

It's my hometown club's first home playoff game and I'll be in the supporter's section jumping, singing and cheering them on. Ten seasons before we got a home playoff fixture. If I had a kid it'd be thinking about high school right now but some things in life worth having more than others.

Just seeing that promo video - I can't imagine anyone liking that or the sort of "lifestyle" and type of people it promotes as desirable and cool. You'd be living with a mob of empty headed fucknuts in a high rise slum.

Brought my suitcase out to get ready for my trip to Paris. Getting rather excited.

i didn't know you were such an aviation buff

I'm not, but when I was on the road (x2) I was reading flyertalk quite a bit about airports, reward programs, express passport control, lounges and the corporate airline of choice for 98 percent of my flights; Air Canada. Except for a few Dash 8 configurations and the pond hopper I've probably sat in all of their equipment by now. A lot of it was due to delays or being rerouted so it wasn't as if I set out to try all the aircraft.
