What's Making You Happy Today?

In the past week my bonus, monthly pay cheque and my tax refund all came into my chequing account. For a moment I thought I was rich until of course all the liabilities start depleting the balance.

Well done! Just wait to get you married....you will have exactly 20 minutes on that arriving into your account before the missus swoops in and leaves you with some pocket and petrol money.

A bartender at one of my watering holes handed in her request to retire today. 40 plus years she has been working there serving me for the past 11 years. At some point I thought I would be like the other regular patrons who get married, have kids and then introduce their drinking age kids to the bar. Alas, that's not going to be the case. The bar features only 20 odd seats and is modeled in square footage after a railway bar car. It has no windows and mostly wood and leather which makes it divine to ruminate in after work.

sounds like a fantastic place

sounds like a fantastic place

It is.

There is a model train that runs along the ceiling but the train was out of commission last year and I guess that was the harbinger of the closing. She is the only person who staffs the bar every week day from 12pm-7pm so chances are the bar will close after she retires but even if it continues with new staff it won't be the same to me.

A very good local fish and chip shop changed hands. The good news is that the original cook bought it out and the food is still good. Not too busy today. Easter holidays mean less people around.

You know I always thought about that. There is a fish and chip shop mid town, English owners came over ages ago, and they retired so they turned it over to a Chinese couple who had been working for them for years. You always wonder if they will be tempted to cut corners and change the recipe and such.

Finally made it to the driving range today. I have to say I'm delighted my irons are pretty much close to what it was at the end of last season. Unfortunately, my driver is at the same level as the close of last season but you can't have everything in life.

Took a platonic lady friend out for lunch and paid $100's for liquor and appies......no wait that wasn't me.

8 with #9 on the way

Are you repopulating the planet? How do people have so much time to make so many new people?

I saw a grizzled father with a slight limp, salt and pepper hair, in a grey suit, white shirt and a paisley tie with a briefcase walking on the platform alongside his bleached blonde son in a black suit, iPhone headphones in his ear going to take the train together to work. I'm guessing his son is either right out of uni or on some kind of work term. I always thought I'd be that bloke but even one kid seems daunting. Just imagine the sartorial criticism I'd have to give him...unless he's actually going to work in a funeral parlour or hotel service.

Am I? No, I have 3 kids. Two of them have been normal with their spawning. It is the middle child who will delivering #6 in a couple of weeks

I just want to look, the place is pretty small, 530sq ft seems tiny even for 2 people.

Buying, but I just told the real estate agent I'm backing out. I'm in a weird headspace right now and it is better to just hold off, Grand Potentate Grand Potentate , thanks for saying take your time.
Always take your time. Think about it, this is 30 years of payments. Better be sure you want to get involved with that. Not to mention that homeownership has its pitfalls as well. If you want to move but aren't sure, just rent until you are. Yes its a pain but its much much worse to be locked into something for such a long time with no end in sight.

The second time I agree with Rambo today. Renting ain't so bad if you're not sure what to do. You're basically paying a small premium for freedom.
