What's Making You Happy Today?

The thing that gets to me is that - presented with the evidence, so many people are rushing to his defense. They see that he's overcharged them wildly, and still they back him. I mean, he must be making crazy margins: stolen or end-run / closeout fabrics, some semi-skilled labor, and he charges 200 euros. For a fucking tie.

The thing that gets me is the lack of cursing. No one's taken up a kickstarter to fly to NY during the trunk show and kick the crap out of him?

I know why management hasn't done jack shit, so that mystery is solved.

fabric stores sell virgin silk for like $30/yd so old end-runs must be even less. even if this stuff takes like two hours, the price is quite outrageus. if it is custom printed that would be cooler than jsut random dead stock cloth.

You know, this vintage hullabaloo reminds me of the Russian leather silliness. People are clearly overpaying so they can have a story.
"Hey, so this is some long lost fabric that Gianni over in Naples blah blah and it's like the only one on the face of the Earth! I rule"

In that case, finding out that they cranked the pattern out on plain silk with a Hewlett Packard or something kind of lessens the appeal.

wonder if the ink runs when it gets wet.

yes well he was not an artisan of Italian tradition, with thirst of vintage fabrics in the old hand-printed makes and many years on the shoulders, made for friend-customers all at disposal.

I read a review today it was rubbish.

I'm debating whether to go to work tonight. People are congregating 8pm-12am. Problem is Mad Men is on at that time and if I go, I will probably work half of tomorrow too even though it's a statutory holiday for me.

Replaced the OEM stereo in the Jag with an alpine. Now get to listen to Pandora everywhere I go. I called this a decade ago, regular radio is dead as disco. Even satellite radio is fucking done. Internet radio, bitches.
Why didn't you wait for the new iOS radios?

Got a lot of looks the last 48 hours because of my attire. I didn't capitalise any of it. I'm happy women in their 20s smile and wink though.

Walked down Jermyn Street and saw that the odious scumbag John Bray's shop has finally closed down. :crazytroll:

Unfortunately, Aquascutum (now selling over-priced Portuguese-made tat, is moving in. :omg:

I haven't been to Jermyn street for so long!

I had a fun time on Friday night bar hopping with someone. She had to go home at a pre-determined time but that was, through luck, extended. We had Spanish tapas, stood around a financial district steakhouse bar and finally decided to settle into a French bistro for the rest of the evening. As a bonus I got to peacock with her in front of some miserable coworkers at the steakhouse (who the bloody hell gets a table at a steakhouse for happy hour, no food, on a Friday?)

Saturday was spent having brunch with someone else. We then moved on to buy something for her office and spent the rest of the day walking by independent clothing, shoe, jewellery, art and furniture stores in a more hipster area of town. Both of us must be the most vain people in the world as we took advantage of every mirror to fix our wardrobe or our hair - without even bothering to try any clothes. We had a laughable time at this modern art gallery that made us both gag and run out without leaving a donation. The day trip ended sitting on a patio beachside in front of the lake swatting mosquitoes from both our faces.

I haven't been happy for a long time. I almost forgot what it was like to be happy. I just didn't want the sun to set on the weekend lest I lose it again.

this ran through a local watch forum over the weekend- there's a japanese denim thread where my stupid shit of an ex-partner posts to sell his jeans....

and this forum has several members that are heavy into japanese denim (enough that we even do private trunk shows with them)... what a fucking sad sack of spoiled shit. (this shithead is also a member of SF (mr unicorn) and a mod has contacted me if I know the guy 'cause he's been trying to shill his shit in some threads. his up for banning there too, that cum-eater.
He's a real charmer.

How's that side business of yours going btw? You've been awful quiet about it over the past few months.

Hey, what about those shoes we discussed???

Papa Doom starts a new job next week, already has clients (okay, two). And getting a decent chunk of change in parting, as well.

OMG just two days left. The office is holding a pot luck breakfast on Friday, and I might be joining people for drinks Friday night. AND that review should finally be put to bed today, leaving a few go-forward tasks, a budget meeting, and untold payables to plow through. yeah.

Traded my wife's Tacoma for a Land Rover LR3. Straight up trade. 'Course the warranty will be steep but when the steering wheel falls off in her hands I get to say "I told you so!"

you know, you never win those conversations.

Speaking of wifely vehicles, I got a call from the local sheriff's office to day that they recovered the truck that was stolen from our driveway a year ago. Total surprise. And I'm tempted to see if the insurance company will sell it back to me, since we settled our claim so long ago.

I know, I know.

The truck's condition is good?

i live in the stolen vehicle capital of Canada where the typical theft is to facilitate a way to get "home". vehicle usually ends up being burned once the trip is over.

Well, I'm told that the upholstery is rough, which is a disappointment since it was very clean when we had it. The back seat had just been reupholstered. So who knows as to the mechanicals, which I'm more interested in.

I suppose as long as the mechanicals are not messed it is worth pursuing. You can always re-upholster again.

Sentimental value or just a solid truck that you'd want to get it back?

Solid truck - well-maintained, only 100k miles on the engine. (F250 diesels are generally good for 350-400k miles). Roomy, good ride.

Still awesome several hours later.

Now we just have to burn that prick T. Axel Jones's office down and you'll have the place all to yourself!
