What's Making You Happy Today?

Had a big budget briefing due today. A few minutes beforehand I get a call from a phone number I didn't recognize. I let it go to voicemail so I could focus on being prepared. It was the Governor, giving me a few words of encouragement. Really unexpected.
let the hatred flow through you

chances for a Leaf loss is always good.

I made a presentation to about 100 people.

Not quite 9 out of 10 like November, but a solid showing on a technical subject that frankly I only knew as well as my six slides.

did they throw any money into your hat afterwards?

Cheers.

It's called the money that comes with a pay cheque.

Also lost 2kg this week since Germany. 1.5kg to go so I can get into my black tie outfit.

you street artists have fancy dresses nowadays
shows that people in general are doing too well

No I'm fat so I'm trying to get back to my ideal weight. The trip to Germany with the sausages and alcohol and unlimited expenses didn't help. I've literally been hiding in my flat except going to this one bar for the past week so I'm getting it under control.

Spent most of the family dinner with my uncle. Finished a bottle of highland park, part of a Johnnie Black and we started a bottle of Auchentoshan. Spent a good deal of time with my parents in the drawing room before they went up.

I'm having a decent week, got free tickets to the Hamilton Bulldogs, they won. Montreal won, Toronto Lost.
At the end of the week I get to look after my sister's place and English Bulldog for three days and get out of the house for that time.

I took Friday off. I was able to get into my black tie outfit for Don Giovanni on Thursday. The weight loss is finally kicking in. The opera ended around 11, although I wasn't too enamoured with the Russian modern take on it. I tried to get into the lobby bar at Shangri La but it was full on a Thursday. Anyway, I used a free suite at the Fairmont from my brother for my opera companion so we went to her suite afterwards. It's bigger than my flat. It's so new the bathroom in the living room wasn't even used much. The free didn't end up being so free as I spent about the same as a standard room in room service charges but it was nice.

I realized that I have an age gap with people now. I was content watching BBC news and took to fancying the 1951 An American in Paris (never seen by me before) till the wee hours - in black tie. And then during breakfast I was fascinated by the 1945 black and white film rendition of Picture of Dorian Gray. I could barely work the television beyond that classic movie channel due to sheer amount of adverts you can accidentally click on.

I ordered croissants and coffee for breakfast and found the room service porter waiting outside the suite at 9:11. I asked for 9:15. I waited a minute or two in front of the peep hole to see how much rearranging of that he could do before I relieved him of his pain. 9:13.

Took uber to Little Portugal to have a 3 hour lunch at a Persian restaurant then walked over to a market to have espressos at a Scandinavian café before grabbing happy hour cocktails at one of those trendy boutique hotels. I probably spent the equivalent of a weekend trip for an average couple in 36 hours.

This sounds amazing.

A most useless holiday similar to President's Day.

I think I'm caught up on work. I have one slide deck to work on but everything else seems to be okay. I reduced my 400 plus e-mail inbox to just a handful of unread pieces of mail.

Indeed a useless day off. Universities are off here this week plus the public schools. The. Public school gets another week off in April. No wonder kids are retarded.

I got an invitation from the big boss' admin for lunch a month from now. I wonder what it's about.

I also found some cheap tickets (premium economy is cheaper than the cheapest economy) for a flight to London. I might head over in April if some of my old work mates are around to have a few pints.

Just booked the tickets for London in April. Going to be nice to see the lads if they can all come out for 2-3 days.

It's actually my first holiday away since last March when I went for two days to Montreal.

Have fun, I'll go back to Montreal once it gets warm. I have two friends there and the markets and beer are great.

who do you think you are? bret easton ellis?

I extorted some territory from a couple of recalcitrant 'colleagues' this week. It's amazing how much more willing to collaborate people are when you have a gun to their head.

I'm claiming this as a mini "Crimea".

What does that mean? A living author - I rarely read those if at all.

I am approaching 4 days of sobriety today. It's not making my sleep any better.

Let's hope that it doesn't end up like the charge of the Light Brigade...

crimea = colleagues kindly ask you whether they can become a part of your team; you vote - bingo, you're done

Lent is great for fatties. Six pounds down in a week and a half. I've been trying to lose this weight since October.

I finally found a summer cotton suit I think I'm going to like. Luckily jacket pants are sold separately so testing with pants first. Will post fitpic if turns out ok. Slightly unhappy six days of volleyball/yoga has grew my chest to 41" though. I'd hate to become like Pauly or Betel.

I survived the flight without too much of a hangover. I had a 3 hour nap. Honestly, I could have went into the office but didn't feel like it. I'm at the hotel lobby bar (there are four establishments here) and I'm worried that the other people at the bar may actually be in my company. I can be an introverted bastard sometimes.

I got to help with my boss' wardrobe today. I see he's finally investing in new spread collar shirts.

Apparently I drank half a bottle of Grey Goose last night. The bartender told me to do bottle service and he'd keep it here for me.

I woke up without a hangover at all.

Anyway, I'm on my third pint now.

I'm drinking a Creemore right now, I love it. That and Steamwhistle are my go to beers.

Holy crap, man - I thought that you were trying to *stop* indulging so much when you're in Germany?!?!

Instead, it sounds as though you're trying to drink the place dry!
