I hope the same and think there is reason for optimism.

Nevertheless, what actually happened is that they shook hands upon arrival, but not during the press photo op. This prolly coz the Trumpster was too scared to fuck up another handshake and publicly embarras his country once again.

In any case, Trump seems to be already getting what he deserves: A long, long time of utterly boring meetings, memos, travel, etc. under the constant ridicule of pretty much the whole world, while back home Melania is getting boned by some chulo. So that coming along nicely already.
 
Trump shows himself to have the emotional maturity of a fifteen year old and be completely malformed psychologically. Debasing the office of President with a total lack of dignity, yay!!

Angela Merkel was also STASI informant (IM Erika) and communist (and as such swore to bring down Western democracy) until she miraculously managed to become a member of the CDU party, where Helmut Kohl became her mentor. She eventually became party leader and remains so for over a decade.
She also caused the current migrant crisis and fucked up Europe (she actually started doing that long before she opened the borders).
Her husband is on the board of the Springer media corporation, which shows the ongoing connections between her and the German MSM, and their support for her and her actions. She was openly supporting Hillary and has been talking trash about DT from day one.
So it's obvious why the reception was a bit frosty.

A politician, especially a leade has got to be able to push through all that, a few witty asides quickly provide a corrective...

He looks like a naughty little schoolboy there, staring at his feet...LOL

She's got that stern matronly look down pat. She did a similar thing to Cameron, he may, however, have been turned-on by it...

Thatcher used it too...some men just crumble...
