A Futile and Stupid Gesture: The History of the First Trump Presidency & Q-Anon

maybe this whole failed presidency had been one long practical joke then?

His presidency has not been a failure: Middle East success, the US economy was roaring before Covid hit, he's kept us all out of futile wars and brought a shining light onto swamp life both sides of the Atlantic, including their paramilitary wings. He's boxed the Democrats in on foreign policy too.

He needs to leave office now graciously now. Without a supergrass looking for immunity with blockchain evidence the supreme court are not going to overturn the election. Smoking guns and affidavits are not enough.

"'Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one with a memory longer than four years,' said Salvatore Babones, an American associate professor in political sociology at the University of Sydney in Australia.

During his final weeks in office, President Barack Obama removed decadeslong preferential privileges for Cuban immigrants, announced sanctions on senior Syrian officials for suspected chemical weapons attacks, accelerated hiring to federal agencies, and commuted the prison sentence of WikiLeaks whistleblower Chelsea Manning.

'I think it's pretty ordinary, the tying up of loose ends, the attempts to get your people into office and the inevitable pardons,' Babones said. 'I think we should see this like many other things in the Trump administration: distinctive in style but pretty ordinary in substance.'"

Thank you - a sane person. The only people moaning now are the same people moaning during the election and when he was elected.

Pretty spot on FT piece describing our psychotic cohort here

No easy cure for America’s ‘paranoid style’ If Donald Trump leads a boycott of Joe Biden’s inauguration the Republican party will remain his Edward Luce

The paranoid mind, wrote Richard Hofstadter — one of America’s great 20th-century thinkers — sees the world as a battle between good and evil. Anything less than total victory will only deepen the paranoia. “Even partial success leaves him with the same feeling of powerlessness with which he began,” Hofstadter wrote. “This is in turn only strengthens his awareness of the vast and terrifying quality of the enemy he opposes.”
In today’s US case, the enemy is the deep state allied with globalist forces, whom conspiracy theorists believe (without evidence) rigged the presidential election for Joe Biden. The question is whether that kind of paranoiac, which, polls suggest, describes the overwhelming majority of Republican voters, will drift into atomised resentment or be a political wrecking force. The answer will shape the direction of American politics in the years ahead. Hofstadter’s observations point us in both reassuring and worrying directions. He developed his theory of “the paranoid style in American politics” having watched Joe McCarthy’s red scare, which convulsed US politics, media, academia and the entertainment industry for several years in the 1950s. Much like today’s GOP politicians, who are mostly playing along with Donald Trump’s claim of a stolen election, McCarthy’s fellow Republicans kept their misgivings about his communist witch hunt to themselves. This included president Dwight Eisenhower who was unwilling to pit his office and towering second world war record against a booze-addled senator from Wisconsin. Eventually McCarthy went too far. His balloon burst in 1954 after Joseph Welch, a Pentagon lawyer, who was rebutting McCarthy’s wild claims that senior army figures were in league with the Soviet Union, retorted: “Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?” McCarthy died three years later in obscurity. Mores have coarsened since then. It is hard to imagine anyone who could similarly shame Mr Trump. McCarthy’s fall shows that America’s bouts of paranoia do subside. From the scare over the Illuminati in the 1790s, to the Free Masons in the 19th century, to the resistance to Catholic immigration in the late 19th century, each wave crashes. But they are followed by more. Sometimes, as with McCarthyism, they evolve. The year after McCarthy’s death, Robert Welch, a wealthy candy manufacturer, founded the John Birch society, which seeded today’s US conservatism. Welch was an ardent fan of McCarthy. He believed Eisenhower was a “dedicated, conscious agent of the communist conspiracy”. Claims that Mr Biden stole the election demand an equally giant leap of faith about the existence of a vast conspiracy to cancel Mr Trump. Just as McCarthy’s supporters believed in an elite cabal that worked for Moscow, today’s ring allegedly includes George Soros, Venezuelan socialists, Chinese communists and numerous Republican judges and election officials in Georgia and Pennsylvania. Lack of evidence has been cited as proof of the conspiracy’s veracity. Even Fox News and Republican state governors are now part of the plot, which is endless in its sophistication and bottomless in its evil. The paranoiac, in Hofstadter’s words, is up against “a perfect model of malice, a kind of amoral superman — sinister, ubiquitous, powerful, cruel, sensual, luxury-loving”. Today’s conspiracy theory is supercharged by being led by the US president. To be sure, Mr Trump will have to move out of the White House on January 20. But he is giving clear hints he plans to run again in 2024. Even if he does not, it will be in his interests to keep everyone guessing. That will maximise his leverage over the Republican party and his ability to add to the more than $200m he has raised since November 3. US presidential election 2020: You tell us How do you feel now the election is over? Are you happy with the winner? Do you feel the election process was fair? How do you see the outlook for America? Do you feel positive about the incoming president or uncertain? Share your thoughts with us. Last week the Washington Post found that only 25 Republicans on Capitol Hill (a tenth of those surveyed) were willing to admit publicly that Mr Biden won the election. Almost all of the others refused to identify a winner. Mr Trump tweeted: “Please send me a list of the 25 RINOs [Republicans in name only]”. It is entirely possible Mr Trump’s conspiracy theory will start to pall. It is also possible that his hold over the Republican party will solidify. One recent poll showed that Mr Trump was the party’s overwhelming favourite to be the 2024 nominee. Third place, behind vice-president Mike Pence, was Donald Trump Jr. There is one simple test of whether Mr Trump’s grip will loosen. Mr Trump looks set to boycott Mr Biden’s inauguration next month. If senior Republicans follow his lead, the party will remain his. If they ignore him and show up, his spell will have broken. edward.luce@ft.com

Another record set..

All cuddly until you get to the heinous murders committed. Typical BBC.

All those nice ladies corresponding to murderers, sexual psychopaths and serial killers in jail are getting a sexual thrill from it. And on the street they would be partners in crime.

Good news - but lethal injection is not as dramatic as the electric chair.

Hanging is a reasonable halfway house. There is never an issue with limited rope supplies either.

Could have easily been posted in ‘What’s making you happy today’ or possibly a new thread :-

‘Things which people in the UK like about the USA’

Hanging depends on several factors of size, etc, and whether you want them to do the Tyburn Jig or not?

The Hangman's Noose knot is good for the latter. Us Brits went for a quick clean breaking of the neck with a steel ring in the knot, at least in the 20th century. There's also the length of time between the walk from the condemned cell to the execution, don't want the condemned to get nervous, between 6-10 seconds is ideal.

But they did steal it fare and square:

The hangman Albert Pierrepoint was famous for measuring up the condemned prisoner and then using ‘drop tables’ so that it would be a clean break of the neck - not strangulation or decapitation. Gallows was usually right next door to the condemned cell.

Who are you referring to here, the audience or the condemned?

But they did steal it fare and square:

When you're citing an article that argues that the Democrats won fraudulently because they increased Biden's votes while not increasing other Democrat votes *on the same ballots* then your argument has a problem. Biden won because a sufficiently large number of people liked the Republican Party overall, but considered that Donald Trump was an incompetent arsehole. It was a vote to reject Trump, not a vote to reject the Republican Party.

I get that, but there was plenty of strange statistical trends, combined with the affidavits and the smoking gun evidence of ballot watchers being cast out and dumps in the wee wee hours, it seems improbable that there was not some ballot rigging and fraud taking place.

Enough to turn the election? Possibly.

Without a supergrass with blockchain evidence of the fraud with all the key players utterly exposed there was really not much chance with the Supreme Court.

The culture war will continue and Trump will have to accept the Supreme Court decisions. We're told there's still powder they're keeping trick. Better be quick then. It's the 14-Dec on Monday.

If betraying your allies and cozying up to dictators, jihadis and extremists is a massive success then, yeh, so much winning.
He's not betrayed any allies, unless you count Iran as an ally?

He got peace deals on the table Middle East with Israel.

Interesting take on Trump’s brand of identity politics:

As someone who's tea total, it's hard to include Trump as addicted. His grievances are valid: a hostile and lying MSM that spent the first years of his presidency fixated and promoting Russian collusion which was paid for ''intel'' from an ex-MI5 gun for hire with zero credibility.

The Kurds deserved full support, I agree. Everyone's deserted them. Unfortunately.

Neither Syria, Turkey, Iran, nor Iraq wanted to donate a part of their countries for Kurdistan. I doubt even if the US *and* Russia forced them they would do it.

Well maybe except Assad but he was the one incompetent enough to suddenly wake up one morning and realise over half his country was gone and you were running out of roads to leave Damascus.

Who is this guy?

It is General Patton.

Who is he?

He is the warrior in the universe, and when the world is in trouble he puts on a human suit and fights the big battles against the evil. He is the tough guy of tough guys....the guy that gets sent when no other man can carry out the battles. He is the warrior!

He was General Patton in the last life, but now he is BIG Daddy TRUMP. Both act in the same way, ie, they are/were outspoken and had a unique ability to unite large groups of people.

Notice the similarity in appearance? There is a good reason for that.

The wise folks steeped in tradition and spiritual culture all know who Trump is.

It was never political for us. It is the end times when the warrior appears again to fight evil communism from coming to the shores of the beacon of democracy, the U.S.A. The U.S.A is the last beacon of hope for so many countries, so we fight and expose the communist spector to the world.

I suggest people look at this, because this is exactly how it is.

Wake up guys, stopped being conned by these people.

But remember what happened to General Patton.

It's pretty clear that there was serious irregularities and ballot dumping. Enough to turn the election, quite possibly. But possibly not.

Affidavits and statistical anomalies are not enough. It needs to be resolutely transparent with the conspirators exposed and going to jail for a long time. It will be the biggest scandal in our lifetimes. But without that hard evidence, or the time to present it, it strikes me as very damaging as it seeks to undermine institutions of the Republic, however tainted they may be.

Wake up guys, stopped being conned. The democrats, big tech, mainstream media, courts and big business are no longer for the people. They have shown their true face in recent weeks. Trump will bring in the new era and the old garbage from the current system will be cleaned out.

Trump will be the last President of the U.S.

Trump versus Patton, eh?

Lets see ...

Patron was a soldier who hated cowards. Trump is a draft dodger.

Patton hated Nazis and fought led an army against them. Trump is an apologist for fascism and repeatedly refuses to condemn fascist violence in America. Patton never said there were good people on both sides of the Dachau wire.

Patton was an anti communist who fought against North Korea. Trump sucked up to the North Korean dictator as well as the current Russian autocrat. Patton would be horrified by Trumps attempts to enlist foreign governments help in his failed election bid.

Patton’s family can’t stand Trump:
