All About Watches

Time for a new leather nato for my Hamilton. I do love cxl8, but it might be too soft, thick and markable for a strap. Kangaroo? It appeals to my Aussie roots, for damn skippy. Thoughts?
Aussie roots. {wink wink} {Nudge nudge}

Somewhere in the annals of StyleForum I remember reading someone who said metal watch bands are casual and leather bands are for dress. Is that true?
Every idiot arsehole macho bully buffoon I've ever known wore a metal stretch watch band.

Crown and Buckle are actually out of that model, in 22mm.

This place is Australian, fwiw, but I'm not sure about the construction quality or the colour range:

The edges on that look a bit rough for my liking. I don't have a leather NATO - it doesn't quite compute for me - but if I did I think it would look better with one of those clasp thingo buckles.

Just get SHARK mesh! Good for everything.

Thank you for all the not so useful recommendations on leather versus metal watch bands. I'll stick with the StyleForum group think rule - similar to that other one about oxford shoes for work and derby for leisure.

Shark mesh is super useful! It can protect you from bites!

Generally true but it really comes down to the watch then the strap or bracelet. In the example above, it is a non-dress watch with a non-dress Leather NATO strap.

What model Rolex do you have and what strap is on it? Same for the Omega.

To be fair there was some honest good advice in there, ie. that metal is perfectly acceptable in almost all situations. A clean all stainless watch can be worn to anything below black tie, and you really shouldn't have a wristwatch on for black tie anyway. There can be metal bands more formal than leather, the possibilities are endless... Just use judgement.

^ Yeah, this.

I've always liked Nomos and they make an excellent watch. Have you looked into Stowa or Archimede? Or bought my watch yet?

Stowa has some serious historical cred and Archimede offer most models unbranded.

Laco and Sinn also do some light faced vintage pilot-style watches, I believe.

yeah. Leitmotif Leitmotif 's been buying it for 2 years now...

archimede is straight sex. their pilot chrono was one of my favorite watches. you rarely see the hidden date dial like that. of course, their prices have skyrocketed. so have stowa's.

Yup, in fact that model I posted in Stowa is around 200 euros more expensive.

Not really my style Rambo.

Anyone have experience with Orient watches? I really like the ER2400BW. The mix of silver and rose gold appeals to me.

I'm also partial to the ER24002W in full rose gold.

orient makes good watches for cheap-ish. you can often find deals for them on slickdeals.

I know I bagged the Yachtmaster in this thread but that was before I knew they had a blue dial steel version.

The question is, do I need to buy a yacht to wear it? And can I get it in a jubilee bracelet?
