All About Watches

It has grown on me. I do prefer it to the fluted or plain ones on, say, a Datejust. And being all one colour it blends pretty well into the background unlike a black diving bezel or dare I say it GMT with contrast colour numerals.

That is what kills it for me. A bezel is supposed to be bold in terms of readability. Of course, for a yachtman, it is clear enough to see the time elapsed between cocktails and that it is time for another

I get you, but I suppose it depends on when you will wear the watch. I have a proper dive watch, and would wear this as a weekend/smart casual/daily wear watch. Having a useable bezel is ok, but I don't really want something that says "I am a dive/grotty yachtie/ doghouse doghouse watch", so the (relative) subtlety is ok with me. I mean, what purpose do those silly screws on a Royal Oak or Ingenieur serve anyway?

Silly screws.

Why not consider an internal bezel watch. Bit more subtle. If you can find it, the Polerouter will cost you about the same or more than the non-gold YachtBlaster

I don't need or want a functional bezel - but the fact the Grotmaster bezel is subtle (for a Prolex) makes up for its useless functionality, if that makes sense? Probably not... But I don't want another unreliable vintage watch I can't get parts for, especially one called a Prolerooter!

Then buy a JLC or Longines Legend diver. Current models.

But I get what you are saying. The scruntMaster you posted is nice in that dial colour.

Don't think you can get the Jubilee unless you buy it and swap it in. Oyster-flex is the standard bracelet.

I don't want another diver - I like sunburst blue dial steel watches though. I would also like the Prolex on a jubilee but I think you're right I would have to buy separately.

I really liked the Gla-shoot I posted earlier as well but can't get them on Treasure Island.

I like the finishing and the champagne dial on this, and the blued GMT hand... But it just has one too many lines of meaningless text in one too many fonts.

If you eliminate the spring drive dial that thing is the sex.
You mean get rid of the words "spring drive" on the dial or the SD power reserve indicator? Either way, I agree with you.

If they made a hi-beat with that sunburst champagne dial I would be all over it.

The dial indicator, those things are so pointless.

Well yes, it's hardly necessary for a watch with a full 3 days of power reserve. I'm not against all PR indicators but when you already have a 24hr scale, GMT hand and a mini-essay of text the last thing you need is another subdial - especially one that runs upside down.

I find them pretty ugly in general. They just looked randomly slapped on.

I think they are a useful complications especially for watches with high accuracy, but agreed, too often they fuck up a dial. JLC had a small window on the back of one of their older Reverso models with the PR - that was a neat solution I thought.

Yes, I much prefer the power reserve on the back of the movement. I've seen an IWC with the power reserve indicator on the back of the movement, too, and it was a nice touch.

Has anyone heard about Lord Timepieces?

They are quite cheap, I know that they are not going to be a perfect timepiece, but I'm looking for something that looks acceptable and is cheap to use it while I'm driving or when I have to visit places that are not that safe.
