The jeweler held something up to the back of the watch that showed the battery was still good, but the "coil" is broken! $60 to get it fixed!!

Have no idea if I'm being taken for a ride.
Take it to another jeweler for a 2nd opinion

Get the second opinion.

If it is the coil, the prime reason for it breaking is ham-fisted battery changes. A new watch should not have a suddenly suspect coil. Or it should be dead from the factory

If you have an analog circuit tester set it on 2.5V DC and check the coil contacts. You should see the needle twitch every second alternating above and below the 0

I actually don't have a voltmeter, (I should I know), and if he already broke the coil then someone has to fix it. Yes I should have gone elsewhere who wasn't responsible for breaking it in the first place, but I gave into convenience.

The jeweler is Jewish btw.

Fuck. I needed a new strap for my watch. Start reading about options and get sucked in to the whole Flieger thing and now I want one. Can't decide between these three.

Of course no normal person would notice the difference to my current Hamilton.

This morning, 10 am I was sleeping and my beach villa in the Mediterranean coast has been assaulted by a marroquian. The back door was forced and I was listening noises on another door 5 meters from my bed. Must me the wind. Oh God, the door is bended and some sun is entering! I thought bulgarians, rumanians or algerians/marroquians or south americans, they are assaulting a lot in my country, 75% of the prisoners are from there ( no racist, is the true). I woke up, pressed the alarm, called the police, opened the windows and went to the upper terrace, a marroquian I saw!!! I my area which is wealthy, lots of 911, jags ( like mine) etc are parked that people is always around. My family doesn´t want to sleep here any more. I have no fear on letting him some lead jarabe but not my family to see me in prison. Here the laws are so lefty that if you beat, kill, reduce etc the thief you pay with thousands of euros or prison.

Thoughts on a blue 36mm Datejust with smooth bezel and jubilee?

I like the Globemaster because of the quick hour set function (which would be handy for me), and it is a nice looking watch IMO, but in truth it just isn't as handsome as a classic Rolex on a jubilee (in all honesty what is?)

The word "Corniche" has now become poison as a name unless people want to laugh

Trying to save the Corniche...

Obviously the fluted bezel is better

No love for the omega

It is nice but is it just me or have the fluted bezels got bigger compared to the older models?

I like the tech in the Omega especially the antimagnetic thing, one of my watches got magnetised somehow and is losing time - must be my magnetic personality.

Yes i also noticed that
The new fluted bezels got deeper waves or something, they are a lot more bling
But still better than the flat one

Definitely more bling now - this is how a fluted bezel should look:

Isn't that a "engine turned" bezel or something like that, rather than a fluted bezel?

I think that the engine-turned bezel was more common on the Air-King, whereas the fluted bezel was more common on the Datejust (and was quite often made in white gold on the steel DJ, too).

$365 and up for a Quartz is a bit high but they're fairly attractive.

I find them very attractive all around and the overall fit and finish look nice enough. The pricing does seem high for a quartz, but maybe the sum of the rest of the watch's materials and build is what the company feels justifies it.

Don't like the scalloping on the Omega dial.

I can take it or leave it. The thing that really kills it for me is the bracelet, it just looks so fucking cheap, especially compared to a jubilee. That said, I think the Omega was probably designed to be worn on a strap, and it does look better that way, but then it becomes semi-dress watch, in which case I would rather wear a Reverso personally.

In other news - found the perfect watches for LelandJ LelandJ , who also happens to be featured on the company's homepage:

"The Journeyman Journeyman Series follows the pristine example of craftsmanship set forth by American, Railroad-Era pocket watch manufacturers."

They also happen to be some of the ugliest Frankenwatches I've ever seen.

I loled at the "bespoke" experience featuring brown wrapping paper

My Omega love is well documented, but I just could never get on board with the Globemaster. Omega needs to stick with sporty watches.

True, aside from the GM the regular DeVilles and Constellations look like $20 mall watches. Can't believe the steel versions cost like $5-10k...
