I like Gustin. Never mass dropped anything, but Thruth seems to follow them closely.

I don't understand watch winders. Could anyone possibly be so lazy as not to be bothered to occasionally wind their automatic watches and set the date (they are all quickset if they are automatics). It's a pleasure anyway... winders just seem like a knobbish pretence to me, unless you have a perpetual calendar or something which requires special setting, but even then, is it really that big a deal you need to spend hundreds of dollars on these gimmicks?

Yeah but so does wearing them once a month... or winding them yourself once every so often. Some brands seem to discourage the use of winders claiming they can prematurely wear out parts though I don't know how using a winder would be any different to wearing a watch on your wrist everyday. Then again that's the point - a watch that's worn once a week won't wear out as fast as one worn all the time.

Winder is less important for modern watches using synthetic lubricants which will not gum up like older conventional lubricants

Hung jury on the "wearing out faster". Some say yes, others, no.

I just get Butler to come over and wind mine.

I suspect there is benefit in running a watch every so often - same as with an old car or a woman it pays to turn it on occasionally and get the lubricants flowing more freely. I am just doubtful whether a winder really saves any effort to be worth the money or pretence. Unless you have dozens of high end watches in which case Butler is for sure the more appropriate option, otherwise you need to keep detailed spreadsheets liek LKP LKP on which watch was wound and when, for how long etc... and who could be fucked?

I suspect that you're probably grossly underestimating the obsessive personalities of those who have sizeable collections of expensive watches!

What about it gave you such a strong impression?
Mostly the depth in the dial and the finishing on the case and bezel. It just felt right. I can see how it might be too big for some people but the size was perfect for me.

Also, it was only slightly more expensive than a Venezuelan slave.

About US$20 000 retail, I think.

Very nice, but certainly not very cheap.

Do it.

Which color?
Must kop for the adoration of my internet friends!

I liked the blue the best, predictably. Really popped even under the protective stickers.

A WG Datejust is $10k, so is a sub... personally I am inclined to have something really special like a Vacheron if I can afford it than say a DJ and a Sub, or a Scruntmaster and change.

I am going to Brazil early next year, hopefully the real tanks like the peso and I might pick one up there. Will also be a thrill walking around streets of São Paulo with a $20k watch on me olo.

I am a blue fan as well, from watches to suits to basically everything, but the brown they use is pretty damn fantastic.

That said I'll probably end up with a blue as well.

Yes brown is nice (no rascist). I think the blue is more versatile though. The salesman - if you could call him that (though I am admittedly not their target market due to not being, you know, Asian) - didn't demonstrate the quick change straps, but the blue alligator really dresses the watch up too.

I was surprised how much I liked the silver, which looks a bit flat in some photos. On its own it's a great watch but has the unfortunate position of being compared to the blue - it's the Venus Williams of the overseas line.

I also tried the Gla-shoot 70s. Great watch but the font of the big date is soo booring... if you are going to put a BIG DATE in the middle of a 70s styled watch, why not use a 70s style font rather than something from a German book keeper's 2006 VAT return form?
