All About Watches

I always knew you were color blind.
Some of them are indeed mighty fine watches, haven't seen the new Yacht Master yet. The Milgauss with the green and orange shit going on is superb too. I also likes those Air Kings with a lot of colour on the hour digits a few years back, seem to have discontinued them now.

I thought I'd never, ever buy a Rolex, but the new goddamn Yachtmaster in platinum has me in a fucking tractor beam. I am resisting with all my might.

I hold deep reserves of the discipline+resistance and am willing to sell/lease/lend you some as needed. Pleased to ask for terms. Conditions, not so much as they are fully obvious.

Save an extra $4k and get an Overseas. ADs are giving 20-30% on the VC which brings it within striking distance of no-discount Grotmaster buyers.

Oh the Overseas is a done deal. It will be in my possession in January.

I don't know why this YM has me so fucked. I despise Rolex but adore this watch. Can't get my anxious middle class brain around it (credit FriendCustomer )

Well if you can get both why not? You can always save the YM for when you're sailing so you don't fuck up the VC on the poop deck.

Speaking of, I am really coming around to the silver dial... with a brown croc strap and the bracelet you pretty much have the most versatile watch going around.

Whereas with the blue dial one might be tempted to do something reckless like buy a silver faced Rolex as well...

Yes, that may be the problem.

On the other hand, Blue Overseas =

True, I guess if you're going to get a Holy Trin sports watch it must have a blue dial. I mean, for e.g. getting a white AP Royal Oak just defeats the purpose and I can't imagine the sort of tasteless people that would wear such a watch.

I try not to imagine them but now you've gone and made me, fuck you very much.

Tried one of these on today on a whim - not as thick and with a surprisingly nice and clean design for a Grand Seiko. And very well made of course. But I still don't understand why all their best designs are limited editions...

Omg nice Seiko.

So I paid a deposit on this today as it's a limited edition (and I don't really like the regular models) and the last one for sale in the country.

Now I just have to decide whether to buy it outright, give it back less $50, or take it overseas with me and save another 10% tax on the price.

How much in total before tax savings?

$5k USD - which is same as the US rrp from what I can tell. It was actually $500 cheaper than the regular production hi-beat models.
I'd smuggle it to save 5 large. What's the downside? You get caught at the border just say your gay lover gave it to you as a gift.

No need for a suppository... I just buy it and take it to customs on my way out of the country and then get 10% GST back on it. Once I'm past customs I can do whatever with it ie wear it. I think you can even wear it to the airport.

Only issue is if I want to take a nice watch to that shithole called Brazil - they're pretty fucking desperate there, I wouldn't put t past them to rob me even of a Seiko lol.

It depends where in brazil are you going

Brazil is great, you just need to not stray far from Ipanema and Leblon and be careful what you pick-up in Copacabana's Help disco. Never marry one though, they don't travel well to more temperate climes and then there's half of Rocinha fevala you will be expected to keep. Not a good move that, ruined many a good man.

Takes mental note: "Help disco".

I cannot say that I have any interest in owning any Seiko watch ever. Just not my jam.

Ok, definitely keeping it now.

I saw this limited edition Seiko Presage today:

Normally, I'm not so keen on power reserve indicators, but this one isn't so bad.

I'm not that keen on the Presage range, I think in that style (not the one above, but the others) you are better with something from Longines Heritage range. I think the Presages are Seiko's attempt to do a Swiss watch, which is not what Seiko is and should be about.

Yeah if you're going to get something Jap get something that is unmistakably Jap.
