All About Watches

Glad you appreciate that price is irrelevant when it comes to aesthetics. Look forward to you posting some canny buys, if you dare...
Longines as much as you may want it, falls into the mid-range, but high quality. A canny buy. And I know diplomats who sport Longines before other ranges. It says you cannot be bought.

So away with your pretence and BS.

Price is irrelevant when it comes to looks. Plenty of ugly expensive watches e.g. compare Richard Mille to a visiodate and the Tissot would win on looks for most sane people - a canny buy for sure.

Of course no one can help that the August Reymond logo looks like it’s written with lipstick.

this is somewhat true but only to a point. finishing and materials matters when it comes to aesthetics. regardless of the design, a mall watch often looks likes a mall watch because of the lousy finishing and brutalist case shapes. refined finishing of the case and dial (movement too but i don't really care as much about that) comes at a price. there is no way to compare the quality of the finishing of a tissot or current production longines with a Patek or Breguet for example. this is often something that is lost in shopped marketing photos and must be seen in person.

The previous Flagship re-edition from a couple of years back was a bit cheap looking. This 60th anniversary edition appears a move in the right direction.

Those vintage flyers are 'orrible close up. I can only imagine someone with a Sopwith Pup buying them to go with the biplane.

A brilliant pyramid marketing scheme:

And the Grey Fox is in on it too:

http://www.greyfoxblog.com/2017/11/vertex-m100-brand-and-watch-revived.html

The thing is, whenever you see someone wearing one of these watches, you're going to be thinking that sucker persuaded 5 other people to buy that watch. Looks seriously over priced for a watch who's pedigree is through the grandson.

Christopher Ward introduced his brand with more integrity. This strikes me as a gimmick.

That's because it is, a gimmick.

For example, modern Breguet is, for all intents and purposes, a revived brand owing little to the great man himself. Ditto, the company bearing the name of his great rival, and friend, John Arnold.

Its all marketing shizzle...

Steel best
Rest no love
I’m trying to preserve the ideal stretch on the original Oyster rivet! Though I have to say that I’m also partial to the croc: it really brings out a different aspect of the watch.

I should really get a more modern Oyster bracelet (a 93150, for example). That would be best of both worlds for most occasions.

I've indoctrinated my 19 year old niece into the horological arts. As an early Christmas present (she was on a visit here to Australia for the past three weeks), we bought her a Longines...her first watch. Quartz, but thought it was a canny buy as a first watch:

You've got to start somewhere and you can do no wrong with a Longines. It should last her many years.

I hope you know what we all meant by liking your last post prince nez prince nez . . .

Oh the wit!

This is too precious not to share: " 'When I could finally buy a watch,' [German painter Friedrich] Kunath says, sporting a sexy early-'70s Rolex Root Beer GMT-Master, 'what was I going to do, get a Seiko?' "

https://www.gq.com/story/inside-artist-friedrich-kunaths-amazing-world

Full on petit bourgeois from the pretentious ad copy of Arty Nelson to the "brazen young iconoclast" of the artist himself. I have a Rolex, therefore I am!

His art is shite by the way, next year's Ikea canvas awaits:

Doesn't quite look like a 1970's Rolex Pepsi GMT:

Perhaps he was taking the piss?

Oh the wit!
It's not supposed to be funny.

Canny buy or not, I would bang her. I would be wearing my two-tone Root Beer GMT, and I would make sure to incorporate the Longines into the ensuing artwork. You are welcome to join as the loafer to my banana, dear. Make sure you also wear one of your canny buys.

The GS bracelets are design classics. I had the pleasure of checking them out awhile back with the champagne face watches which I think are truly magnificent, from the Quartz up.

Talking about canny buyers, the watch bracelet on the Longines 1967 Diver is something else too. Up there with the best.

I wouldn’t actually say the bracelets are the strongest point of GS - you’re right about the dials though, and the point of posting those photos was to emphasize the case finishing, which IMO is some of the best and so far ahead in the price bracket as it doesn’t bear comparison.

I like the bracelet on my GS but again, I wouldn’t call it a design classic (it’s basically a Speedmaster bracelet). That said, it’s high quality, low profile and comfortable, but it’s just a supporting act to the watch itself.

If you like the champagne dials this is a great everyday watch IMO (if you can accept the PR meter, which on this one is relatively well done IMO).

I thought the GS bracelet was a tad more svelte than the Speedy bracelets?

If I get one it will be the champagne dial 9F Quartz. I'm hoping at long last to get a trip to Tokyo next year and that will be the time to get one. There's a 3 month waiting list here and then all the extra import duties which pushes the price up significantly.

That’s funny, because this morning, 10 am I was sleeping and my beach villa in the Mediterranean coast has been assaulted by a marroquian. The back door was forced and I was listening noises on another door 5 meters from my bed. Must me the wind. Oh God, the door is bended and some sun is entering! I thought bulgarians, rumanians or algerians/marroquians or south americans, they are assaulting a lot in my country, 75% of the prisoners are from there ( no racist, is the true). I woke up, pressed the alarm, called the police, opened the windows and went to the upper terrace, a marroquian I saw!!! I my area which is wealthy, lots of 911, jags ( like mine) etc are parked that people is always around. My family doesn´t want to sleep here any more. I have no fear on letting him some lead jarabe but not my family to see me in prison. Here the laws are so lefty that if you beat, kill, reduce etc the thief you pay with thousands of euros or prison. This is not the states. The land of freedom. I live in the land of thieves aproved by the government. Thanks

The future is gated communities here in Europe. It's going to get much, much worse and rather more quickly than the Establishment planned on. The only good thing is that the traitor class will be held to account, as they won't be able to slip out unnoticed, we'll get to deliver justice rough and ready if needed.
