It's just a bit of a vibe and buzz. It's for the youngsters of course...and those resellers this morning of which there was a number in evidence. There was a chap near me on every horological platform on his iPhone loving every luxury watch imaginable - clearly, a busy hustle. It was mainly students in their early to mid-20's half speaking Dutch the rest speaking English.
I enjoyed it. Got up early, feeling great for the first time in weeks, but as I've got people living downstairs, I needed to do something. So there I was in the centre of Rotterdam and I thought, if I go there now, I'll just look stupid with the other 10 nerds outside the Swatch store. So I went for a coffee at McDonalds which cost me getting one of the watches today.
I'm sure whatever I got would have given some pleasure for at least a day or a week for someone.
We'll see when the next batches come in.
Porsche Design do many things, including spectacle frames. It's the same as Bang & Olufsen being on every laptop and computer screen these days.
Aesthetically, I think several Swatch watches are extremely pleasing, it falls down in the materials of course. But for €55-90 you can do no wrong. They don't look like something cheap and nasty pretending to be something more expensive. In fact they go out of their way to be distinctively a plastic Swatch watch and be damned. I haven't owned one since I had the Peter Gabriel Ltd Edition from the early 1990's, but if I needed an urgent replacement watch on a trip or something, I would have no problem in sporting the Twice Again or something similar and wouldn't be embarassed who saw it.
