Ask A Quick Question

he seems to feel JLStJ is the best fit for him.

whatever. for me there is something missing with his endeavours. he started out hoarding RTW from Alden, EG and the usual suspects. he flipped most of this stuff. he was shilling for leathersoul and he created the PC boot with St. Crispins.

now, he pretends to be the big expert on bespoke and bengal-stripe is brown nosing him. congrats.

haven't really looked at her creations

afaik, there's only one boot picture released and this isn't awful, imo.

If you are not at all attractive (facially) then you almost need to wear a sharp suit. If you are not going to be comfortable or are at all attractive then you can likely get away with the navy blazer. However you are from New York, and expected to be sharp and well dressed.

There is a fine line between well dressed and over-dressed. I think a suit/tie rig at this convention is over-dressed for most. The good think about a navy jacket is with grey trousers and a tie it's like 90% as dressy as a suit, but you take the tie off and you don't look like you forgot to put it on before you left home the way the you do if you don't wear a tie with a suit.

In a sense if you dress with less then a suit and tie when you present you will look casual. Any other time a navy blazer and tie would be fine. Just make sure they fit impeccably.

Fwiw, I'm also in this camp.

Good man

I would have to agree that a suit with no tie looks a bit odd but an odd jacket allows for either option.

:ThankYou:

I think most on DW and other fora like the jacket, no tie look. I am definitely in the minority on this one.

I do a lot of presentations, lectures, talks and I approach it from the perspective that I am the invited presenter so why not go full out with either suit or jacket and tie. Most of the audiences i speak to are generally casually dressed. I rarely consider if the audience is going to be casually dressed in not before deciding what i will wear.

I am peculiar in that it is either a tie-based outfit or something decidedly more casual. Casual for me is not jacket, dress shirt, trousers.

Again, only my peculiarity.

For the presentation, I will most definitely be wearing a tie. The rest of the time will be jacket/no tie. If I bring a suit, the only day I'll wear it will be for the presentation. It feels like overkill to me, but I have yet to decide. I could ask my boss and see what he thinks, but he is a tasteless fucker

Well that is different. Does not have to be a suit then.

is it "normal" to have your sleeves sitting on your douchey watch? not talking about loud coloured shoes with a suit ... afaik only his handle is eyetalian.

douchey deluxe.webp

Is it just me or do his sleeves look a bit short?

Shirt sleeves are fine. Jacket sleeves might just be a touch, maybe 0.5cm, too short.

If his left shirt cuff and jacket sleeve weren't stuck on his large watch, it would look pretty good.

No jacket? Don't wear a tie

So, if you want a light jumper in a cold office, you would remove the jacket and tie when arriving? Or wear the jacket all day? Or wear a thermal undershirt?

Have never worn a sweater under a jacket. I can appreciate the look (jacket, tie, sweater) but just haven't done it.

I never take off my jacket, never wear a jacket without a tie, never wear a tie without jacket, never wear a sweater under a jacket and only wear a sweater in more casual settings. but in a chilly office I will wear down filled pentz (no that is a lie). If it is chilly, I will wear a heavier weight jacket. I have a range of fabric weights available but I err towards heavier weight fabrics as a general rule which gets me through the seasons where i will wear office kit and negates extra layers for chillier days. Double-breasted flannel for really cold days

Fair enough. Personally, I much preferred sitting and working in a light, soft jumper than a jacket. I tend to remove and hang my jacket once I arrive indoors. I guess I do wear fairly slim fitting jackets, though.

horses for courses. if that fastening button ain't straining you are not an iGent! while the buttons don't strain (unless i have been inhaling McDonald's again), i have no room for a jumper under mine. reminds me of what Don Cherry, the old Boston Bruin coach used to say about his suits being "standing suits" cut only for standing up on the bench during a game.

^ Holy mackerel - I'd seen pics of Don Cherry wearing his wallpaper-pattern suits, but I didn't realise that he was a genuinely snappy dresser when he was younger. If only he'd stayed on the sartorial straight and narrow...

yeah he was a pretty sharp dresser in his professional days. now he wears the weird shit as a gimmick. i always used to run into him at airports when i used to travel a lot and he still is a snappy dresser when not on TV.

this is more indicative of his non-TV suiting. but he does always wear those god awful collars

He looks middle-aged in the well-dressed photos, so how old is he now - in his eighties?

Perhaps he's taken a leaf out of Karl Lagerfeld's book and he wears the high, Edwardian-style collars to hide his wrinkled neck?

81 next month.

LOL, you may be right on the creepy neck disguise

Useless bastards;

what do you guys think about how the sport coat and the suit fits me?

Paging Thruth Thruth Grand Potentate Grand Potentate Russell Street Russell Street

Don't comment about the shirt, I'm a bit fat right now and plus going to the gym I'm also a bit swollen lol.

Navy suit. In this one I I have a bit of pull on the chest area, same size as the one below though so I don't know why.

This is my sport coat which is a really really dark navy/charcoal I don't fucking know.

I'm no expert but it looks okay to me. There's the faintest whiff of button pull. The suit seems to be sitting a bit crooked which may explain the few tiny niggles on the shoulder and lapels. I can't get RTW to fit that well without heavy alterations.

There are no huge issues that cannot be addressed with some alterations

The sportcoat front is a bit too open since you can see your shirt, no?

The pulling on the suit is not major. You are going to the gym so you should take care of that I would think

Leitmotif Leitmotif do you have a dropped right shoulder? The left sits higher in both photos. As for the fits, #1 is a little short and the arms are short. Waist is a little tight. #2 has better length but the waist is still a bit tight.

I have never done anything to them, I saw that the fit was great when I tried them and didn't bother with it ever since.

I don't get your question, lost in translation. You mean the bottom part of the coat? Alright, thank you.

That's because I usually wear my backpack only on one shoulder, and you can guess on which one. Is there anything I can do about that? So pretty much fix the arm length and let it loose a bit on the waist? I think I'm going to fix the sleeves first and then since I'm going to the gym let the gym fix that.

Two levels below the most senior executives here and 2.5-3" ties are still quite popular here in Germany especially the younger crowd. I thought I at least saw some subtle switch in North America going back to 3-3.5".

The styling of those two SCs is very very very ghastly.
Want me to elaborate?

yes please

- overall 2d look of the jacket
- square shoulders/ chest with a very fused look
- ugly high breast pocket - looks like a plaster
- very high buttoning point
- badly shaped side of the jacket; look at the transition from chest to stomach area
- awful machine pick stitching, very visible
- i dislike hacking pockets
- 2nd SC: fugly ticket pocket
- sleeves are somewhat twisted
- ugly buttonholes on the lapels - especially the second one
...
too lazy to write any more
maybe Sartodinapoli wants to help
