Disagreeable Menswear Post Of The Day

When my tie back blade shows it's because of the knot, I don't so it on purpose. :)

Formalwear threads are always fun and stupid.
Two Three goodies in this thread.
http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/...To-A-50th-Anniversary-Black-Tie-Party-in-June
The party is in D.C. Just wondering if I need a white dinner jacket or is my black good. Not many stores carrying white anymore.
WTF, I think the District of Columbia is above the Mason-Dixon line and certainly not tropical. If something is barely sold, it's probably not "needed."
There is a very small stitch between the peak of the collar and the lapel, keeping them secured together. I can't imagine such a delicate stitch is meant to be permanent. Should I snip it, or am I wrong and it is meant to keep the peak from moving away from the lapel when bending, dancing etc.?
I've never owned a peak lapel coat in my life and I know darn well that said stitches are not temporary.
On my tailor's advice, I didn't even open the outer besom pockets on my dinner jacket. Have to say it's great advice.
Geez, maybe have the thing pressed every decade or so, or made of some decent cloth? Don't carry rocks and wrenches in the pockets? Besides, how will one pose for that de riguer hand-in-coat-pocket photo when it's sewn up like an embalmed cadaver's mouth?

I've never seen a lapel stitched to the jacket - that's weird. I'm trying to remember how it was when I bought my dinner jacket at Brooks Brothers.

I think they mean that the collar is tacked to the lapel, that the "notch" is lightly fastened together. I've seen it, but I think smaller lapels and higher gorges makes it less necessary.

I disapprove of this torture device. Are you tired of your socks falling down and your shirt coming untucked?
If so, you're like this guy on this thread.

And you think this is a good idea.

I believe David Reeves is over at SF as well. I never know what to make of the guy.

Some builder laughed at me the other day as I was walking through Union Square wearing my green Mohair suit. I stopped, twisted round on my heels and said right in his face "welcome to New York Dick Head". The prole shut right up.

I got threw out of Steed on Savile Row once for walking in whilst drinking a can of "Tango".

Reeves is a funny character. I like him on the whole (and he's very knowledgeable), but he comes out of left field with some of his thoughts.

The Steed sentence alone is a masterpiece. First, the bizarre idea of a tailor walking into a Savile Row shop while slurping a can of soda show a completely irreverent insouciance. But then we have the bizarre grammar mishmash of bungling the past tense of throw while using the arhaic whilst. My assumption is that "got threw out" is not some Shakespearean take on "was thrown out."
His making, and admitting the motivation behind, the Cobra Commander suit endears him to me in a way.

In a thread filled with ninnies and their OCD preservation of friggin footwear, comes this nugget.
I'm sure there is some skin in dust, but there is a lot of other stuff there too ... one just doesn't know.

Bags should preserve the shine, to some extent, avoiding the need for excessive brushing. There is always the frictional attrition of leather, stitching etc to be aware of when brushing shoes.

Um, no. Ever had leather wear away? Me neither. There is a bit of polish and it would take over a lifetime to erode a piece of leather with even the crappiest shoe brush. And the (nylon? polyester?) stitching is going to be destroyed in this way? Heaven forbid that your trouser cuff eat away at the shoo whilst you walk!!1

Yeah, I used notch to mean the unjoined gap between lapel end and collar. A seeming majority of peak lapels do not have this bit of thread, so it likely is overkill unless the fabric is very flimsy or something.

According to his blog - "Gianni Fontana, Italian, Fashion Marketer, Journalist, Sartorial Dexterous, Principal of Milan Style Academy." WTF?!!

Okay, the jacket looks like heavy stuff while the rest is tropical. Those buttons on the coat are totally wrong, and what's with the ski slope shoulders? Principal must be another online translation flub.

Ok, thought I kick off with two of my favorite WAYWN posters. Both these fits got 20+ thumbs up!

First question: what family member is taking these pictures? My wife would divorce me if I asked her to do this. Anyway, pretty ugly pointy shoes, meh tie, uninspiring pentz color with this jacket. Who thumbs this apart from the NMWA crew??!

Well, let's be honest. He is a pretty unattractive. Even for a German. Which means he should put even more effort in his clothes. But the clothes and fit are totally uninspiring. Light jacket, dark pentz very hard to execute succesfully. Our German friend totally fails, but gets 20+ thumbs.

NMWA?

Russell Street Russell Street How about 'Laughable Menswear Post/Pic/Fit Of The Day' for the thread title? Credit to ConchitaWurst ConchitaWurst for that one.

No Man Walks Alone

The shop set up by gdl, parker, unbelcazzo and few others.

Btw, I wonder when Don Cologne starts complaing. We discussed one of his gits one the Dutch board few months ago. And within hours he registered himself and demanded the proprietary picture to be taken down. I think he even mentioned possible legal action. Wow.

Was this some blue and brown contest, or did they chose to wear these colors on their own? Both would evoke a "how nice, they're trying to look nice" comment if seen on the street.

I can always start a new thread, but anyone else can beat me to it.

These were both out-of-competition fits I believe.

You suggest to dedicate a special thread to the most succesful competition fits?

You can see serious bend on the front seat slat. Poor guy.

Wait... poor bench!

Somewhere we have something like that. Besides, this spin-off would be for unsuccessful fits.

Well, dour expression for dour clothes.

I'm lost. I thought we were looking for a catchier title to this thread, no?

I need a thought balloon here. It should say - "that child has money. I can smell it"

Both look like they are waiting for unsuspecting children

Perhaps hoping for a separate text and image thread for the same snarky purposes is hoping for too much. I try too hard with thread titles and end up making no sense, hence my appeal to others.

Today's Ugly-Ass iGent: Fits & Thoughts?

Damn, didn't think there could be such a thing as too much snark. Back to the drawering board

You guys know that it actually takes these iGents quite some work to take these nice WAYWT photo's?

I have the full set up, though I think I only bought the remote (10 bucks) for the purposes of SF. DSLR and nice tripod I had before I started getting really into taking pictures of what I wear. The pictures would be better if I could go outside; I'd get nice depth of field and better lighting. But generally that is too much of a hassle and embarrassing to boot, even if I do go out behind my apartment (as I have occasionally done for Friday Challenges). Still, having a good camera makes the process a bit more fun yet also frustrating. Just as there is a lot that can go right with a dslr over a point and shoot or iPhone, there is a lot more that could go wrong as well. But you can play around with the iso, f-stop, etc etc and get things like richer colors, depth of field (switched to a different lens recently; between my wife and I, we have around 10k worth of lenses...which isn't much as far as real photography buffs go....NOBD), better interplay between shadows...lots of fun stuff. I'm a generally bad photographer, and the lighting in our place is pretty bad. The above picture is from two standard windows, one about 15 feet in front of me and the other about 18 feet to my left. Neither window really produces much light when I generally take my pictures, especially as both face other buildings.
