Disagreeable Menswear Post Of The Day

Gianni Cerutti said:
I see it very well with a nice solaro. A panama hat. And with a nice two-tone Gladietor to toe.

Our German friend with the otter on his head also got the memo. Lol, lolz, lulz

Otter hides under elegant panama.....

I feel like I was supposed to change the title of this thread but forgot. Was that not happening?

there was this

What the actual fuck with that hat. The hat band seems to be up at the hairline, but it's not angled back at all. This indicates to me that it is several sizes too small, as though it were a child's party favor he jokingly put on. I love the blurred out house number or whatever identifier that is.

My head is too big for a hat. I like DonC's there. Stitchy's hat, I think, is a bit too SW&D. At least, it would jive better with an SW&D fit (where there are looser parameters of what is coherent). I know the hat has cultural significance, but it is not the same culture as the rest of his outfit. That being said, I like Tira's use of his Hausa fez sometimes, but he uses it with very unstructured jackets/relaxed looks.

actually I would have just called him a confused pretentious fuckstick asshole and left it at that, but I'm a supervillain and you're decent people.

Careful, Chorn Chorn has a soft spot for Nigerian homeless types.
really it's just

you're decent people.
I also like a lot of SW&D, so it may be that as well.

I find mean spirited mockery, particularly in public, distasteful. But at the same time, nobody here is pretending otherwise, so I don't have a giant problem with it. Thus my choice of responding with reasonableness. Consider me a foil :whee:

Two vagabond-ish looks I like:

I have to ask. Was your Google search "Jewish Hat Double Breasted"?

Edit: It wasn't. I checked. But shots from this fashion show came up. Pretty fucking terrible.

Greg's looking very Lebanese- fashionable with that beard.

Did you spank the otter to get it to work? I find that to be effective.

I like black overcoats. I have two. I never wear them. I find them very difficult to wear unless you're in a suit. I always end up going with camelhair or charcoal.

Otters, monkeys, it all works. I'd like a camelhair coat, just never get around to finding one.

this was available for a time at Sportman's Warehouse for I think $120 buck. 12 pounds of Bulgarian army surplus

I like the affiliates, with a few exceptions, but I see them as entities separate from the community there (the posters). I particularly like Henry Carter and gdl as they are actually active in the community outside of their respective threads. All the other threads are just stores, and most don't pretend to be otherwise. That's what really irked me about GC--through his spamming, he was essentially bringing his business outside his thread.

Perhaps I'd've felt differently had I gotten into menswear while living in the US, but living abroad, the AV's were a godsend in revamping my wardrobe. At least as far as accessories and pants are concerned.

Orgetorix is one of the few, if not only, people who really successfully pull off an all thrifted wardrobe. DonC is good people, but I'd love to see his 100 thrifted jackets shrink down to 20 or so that were made recently and altered to fit him.

Also, I don't think there is a better poster to illustrate the benefits of a well fitting jacket. Certain cuts will remove a good 30 pounds from DonC, while others have him looking like a linebacker.

That Patrick nutter is still over at Andyland with his thrift acquisitional disorder, but he's all trad, and on the older side, so the boxy fit works better for him. Is he still at SF?
But yes, especially with second-hand items, quality over quantity is important and spending some of the saved money on tailoring makes a world of difference.

Now, before anyone gets the wrong idea, I don't hate this just because I can't see the otter or there's no bench. I don't like this because this is a perfect example of falling into iGent norms. This is a fat guy. Nothing wrong with that. But his clothes are all straining at the seams. Coupled with the no socks, it turns what could be an actually sharp look for someone his size, into something practically laughable. Its a shame, really.

Yes, highlights why low-rise trousers are not good on anyone with width.
As alluded to on jackets by Chorn, tight linen trousers make no sense. Loose and rumpled!

Yup. A potential for a good look killed by bad choices.
