Famous People Who Died

Kinky was one of the greats! I can recall going into a record store near Texas Tech and asked if they had Kinky Friedman and His Texas Jewboys.
The clerk, a winsome young lass, said, "Jan, sometimes I think you make these groups up," but they had it in stock a short time later. My best friend and I saw Kinky perform up close and personal at the Troubadour in LA a few years later--an unforgettable experience!

Kinky on his run for president:: "If I win, the first thing I'll do - is ask for a recount"

The second last time I saw him here he had Billy Joe Shaver as support/ co conspirator. Now there was a talented outlaw

In an August 2014 NPR interview, Shaver said that he shot Coker because he was "such a bully" and that "I hit him right between a mother and a fucker. That was the end of that. He dropped his weapons and said, 'I'm sorry.' And I said, 'Well, if you had said that inside, there would have been no problem.'"[1]

I bumped into Kinky in Kerville twice and once in Austin walking out of the Dr’s office. His animal rescue work (and the hot sauce that funded it) was legendary here.

If, as most religious people believe, there is such a thing as an afterlife with rewards and punishments, one can only hope that "Rusty" Calley will finally get his just desserts.

My BFF (Dr. Herbert E. Gooch III) met Kristofferson at a party shortly before Kris hit the "big time." They had a lengthy conversation, and my pal was very impressed by Kristofferson. As I remarked to me wife, Kris was a good singer, a good actor and a damn good songwriter. Anyone who could elicit two "goods" and a "damn good" from a curmudgeon like me has got to have a lot going for him!
