The Next Election, Political News, and Other Forms of Comedy (US, UK, & Intl)

"For help, I called Vladislav Solc, a Jungian analyst, writer and thinker who lives in Wisconsin, just outside Milwaukee. He’s a member of the Jung Institute of Chicago. 'It’s almost like there’s this American narcissistic archetype, if I could call it that, that has been awakened by Trump,' Mr. Solc said right off the bat."

“There are so many things in the American unconscious, in the American Shadow, that weren’t processed, that were instead pushed down, out of consciousness. Like racism or xenophobia or chauvinism, or this macho mentality. Americans want to believe they resolved those issues and put them to rest, but it isn’t true.”

Really? Americans believe they resolved racism, xenophobia, chauvinism and/or alpha male mentality??

“And then Trump came and legitimized all that anger and all these emotions that people were not in touch with. Trump implied, ‘I give you a mandate to be a hater, it’s okay to put a woman down, to sexualize and objectify them. It’s okay to be a narcissist, essentially.’ And people said, ‘Wow, this is pretty good. I don’t have to do all that work, dealing with those emotions in a rational, conscious way. I can just be a jerk.’”

No resolution or reconciliation required. Be you. Freedom.

Okay. Very improbably he got NC and PA. Which means Kamala Harris has a Byzantine path to 270.

IA went to Trump in spite of that Des Moines Register poll that came out at the end. It looks like 538 was right. Momentum was going to Trump in the month of October. The Harris campaign said they stopped it with the Puerto Rico comments at Madison Square Gardens. It would be nice if someone dissected why the last two events Trump did were empty. Even if it was shown by a biased MSNBC.

What?!

President Biden has a case to make he could have done better (maybe,..probably not) than anointing/acclaiming Kamala Harris who didn't even beat Bernie Sanders in the last proper primary much less the current President.

Maybe it should have been an open convention in August. It's actually telling that of all the Democrat heavyweights that came out to campaign Barack Obama was still the best orator and speaker. It's been nearly 10 years and they couldn't find someone else?

only 6 VPs have been elected President vs assuming the position on the death of the incumbent.

Putin won't be congratulating Trump.

It is also claimed that Trump lost about 3m votes compared to last time, while Harris lost about 14m votes compared to last time (Biden).

2020

Biden 81,284,666 votes
Trump 74,224,319 votes

2024

Trump 71,946,270
Harris 67,103,017

"In 2008, Barack Obama earned 69,498,516 votes in the presidential election, the most ever."

...the pre 2020 Obama record (of "the arc of history bends towards justice" and "Yes we can!" fame) was broken again.

Again, I think you fail to get it. I blame the Democrats more than anyone for failing to provide a meaningful opposition to the gang of tyrants and oligarchs
While that may be true, you certainly said this:
It's astonishing to me that there's a single person on Earth who thinks that the guy who stole from a children's cancer charity is the good guy.
Which imho corresponds to a massive lack of societal awareness.

Gentlemen. We have differing views. Let's not gloat that one side won or one side lost. There's no point to try to rub it in or double down on trying to sway or convince the other person to change their mind. Let's take a moment. This moment. Make sure the other person feels validated. I see you. I recognise you. Let's use this forum as a safe space to support in the most empathetic non judgmental way. Moving forward...together.

Which dictators please?
And which websites should I read then?

The websites that say:

- Trump is Hitler
- Anyone who didn't vote for Kamala is a racist
- Trump is a threat to democracy
- Trump is a dictator

You don't need to read them. Why? Because you have mastered the talking points of MSNBC and CNN perfectly already. ;)

Agreed.

In the meantime, lets have some fun watching some lefties having a meltdown after the election loss.

I think you misunderstood the question … again

Watch lefties losing it Dropbear.

btw, l don't mind lefties that have common sense. But not such a fan of the woke lefties brainwashed with NBC talking points. Here the latter group are on full display (see video). I like the old lefties from the 80's who mainly have conservative values.

“He behaved, in my opinion, in a very correct way, courageously, like a real man,”

...A real man. A lion. Or bear...or...

"An immediate one has to be immigration. Mr. Trump’s monstrous campaign promise to forcibly deport 12 million undocumented immigrants will no doubt prompt some of them to head to Canada."

12M?...we're full. Please don't send any more of your illegals here because you didn't build a wall or have a proper immigration system.

I read S.F the other day to see what people said about the election. It was like war. Trump got called all names under the sun, and things got vicious. I lost so many brain cells reading people's regurgitated NBC talking points. I am glad we don't have that here. If we keep things light toned and try not to convince people we are right, things will be o.k. We are never going to agree on many things, but we can always some things of interest and have some fun.

"In the final weeks of the campaign, she has traveled with her own regular companion: a copy of 'The Iliad.'"

A Classics fan. She has my vote...oh wait I can't vote.

An 800-page edition of a translation of the Iliad! Must be using an awfully large type font. I have one Greek text of the Iliad with a fairly large font. It came to 537 pages. I'll have to confess that I have never read a translation of the Iliad. I have read the original Greek text quite a few times, however. And then she realized that it was too violent (or whatever) for her seven-year-old son. I suppose I should give her a pass for being Indian. (I admit, I can't say much about the great Indian epics like the Mahabharata and the Ramayana.) However, she has been the beneficiary of a lot of "Western" education. I should have thought that somewhere along the line she would have realized that Iliad was pretty much a non-stop gore fest. I am proud to say that my mother never ever censored my reading material.

Lots of first time gun owners/buyers this week.

As for the rest of her followers, Cain said that since “we can’t count on the government,” it would come down to them. “Just keep up the good fight in your own personal lives,” she wrote. “That’s literally the only thing to be done at this point. Stay safe out there. Maybe buy a gun.”

Her Goodreads account suggests otherwise. A lot more British works than I would have thought for an American.

If she has the good fortune to be promoted to first lady in the future her son will be able to watch all the Hollywood renditions of them on whatever in the future that will become more popular than TikTok.

Kamala can still win if she has the courage to do the right thing when the votes are tallied in Congress!

You should enjoy this:

If she cried and screamed because Trump when, then l LOVE it. :troll:

The usual rant from these people is:
- Trump is going to round everyone up and send them to the camps
- Trump will end democracy
- Trump is Hitler
(blah blah blah)

I say, if you are going to cry and carry on like this then stop watching stupid news channels that are teaching you this rubbish (most of them).

Democrats have lost touch with the public sentiment, so the modern democrats will fall. Normal people don't care for woke, identity politics, climate alarmism or other silly ideological ideas pushed on them by the establishment media. If a party is going to be relevant to `the people' they can't be pushing that type of silly stuff. Modern democrats is a party of censorship and ideology, and most thinking people want nothing to do with it.

No Shooey this is the wrong way to look at it. Here, at least, we have one party already doing this, which is the Republicans. What the Democrats keep doing is trying to pull Republican voters, so they start adopting these ideals in an effort to sway them. But, if you're already interested in that, why would you vote for a discount version of the real thing? If you're going to drink Coke you're not going to want to settle for a Coke Zero.

What they need to do is move the other way, away from the Republicans. Since the same dead end jackoffs have been running the party for years, this is why the same things keep happening over and over and over again.

You sound like someone I read in the paper today:

“…could have added that the party that once ruled the U.S. Rust Belt thanks to its relentless focus on worker rights and kitchen-table concerns, and on good jobs and good pensions, somehow lost its moorings and became the party of safe spaces and trigger warnings, of gender-neutral pronouns and bathrooms, of open borders and defund the police, of critical race theory and reparations, of #MeToo and DEI, of wokeism and AOC, of illiberal liberals and cancel culture, of electric-vehicle mandates and bicycle lanes – of essentially everything that interests urban progressives, but which average Americans consider eccentric, self-indulgent and foreign to their everyday lives.”

What they need to do is move the other way, away from the Republicans.

Can’t remember where I read it but basically it said the Harris campaign had so much hubris they decided to spend time, money and effort to reach out to moderate Republicans like Liz Cheney when they effectively had no base other than Hollywood, people with doctoral degrees, young girls, old blacks and the LGBT.

Here is Victor Davis Hanson again giving more interesting commentary on why the democrats lost. No emotional party bashing from Victor, just good intelligent insights.

You sound like someone I read in the paper today:

The problem is that the hard left in the party and the media is doubling down, so it shows they haven't learned their lesson, they refuse to listen to `the people' because they have their own agenda. This will ensure the party run by the modern democrats will become extinct. If they are to survive they must become more moderate and hence more relevant to the average person again.
