The West can't afford them and in the main they can't afford themselves.

China's investment in infrastructure projects is massive, but we'll have to wait some years to see the success or what price is ultimately paid as regards sovereignty.

I thought that was clear with African countries where your resources get raided. In exchange you get free infrastructure and majority control investment but you end up buying overpriced televisions, machinery and toilet paper manufactured in China.

"New Merkel-variant becomes dominant"

"Among progressive West African commentators and urban youth, it is now commonplace to hear calls for the abolition of the CFA franc - the regional currency used by many francophone countries and which is pegged to the euro under a French government guarantee. Its critics say this enables France to control the economies of those countries which use it, while France says it guarantees economic stability."

Sure - go ahead and run your currency like Zimbabwe.

The inclusive people want us to call pregnant women birthing people. There's the other side of the fence.

The inclusive people want us to call pregnant women birthing people.

Yes, do let me know when you see an influential politician pushing that expression, won't you?

Also, referring to pregnant women as "birthing people" may be a bit silly, but I can't see that it's really disadvantaging or denigrating anyone.
However, referring to women as "Earthen vessels, sanctified by almighty God" really seems to be ridiculous, religious mumbo-jumbo and reduces women to the role of some sort of religiously-appointed child-carrier, like something from The Handmaid's Tale.

Why is he wearing police gear/uniform? It takes a special type of clown...

"Ms Marin has faced criticism since a gossip magazine published photos of the prime minister attending a Helsinki nightclub with friends on Saturday.

The Seiska magazine said it spoke to witnesses who saw her dancing at the Butchers club, where she stayed until 04:00."

Is it a crime for your 36 year old PM to be out after they advised her not to self isolate or it's because she was out for a booty call till 4?

That last bullet should be banned as being needlessly complex usage of the English language.

Imagine some high school biology teacher starts talking about the structure of a finger plant’s roots and the FBI haul her out of the classroom for discussing rhizomes in the classroom.

how nice of him to finally do SOMETHING

It's a mandate letter given to ministers appointed at the beginning of a term. It's a minority government (less than 3 year shelf life if 2 years) and they're followed more or less like corporate objectives. If you don't get around to it, it gets copied and pasted for the next guy. I'm pretty sure the aboriginals affair minister believes his/her truth and reconciliation is a sisphyean exercise of futility.

The all caps something was meant to signify sarcasm

The bbc is really giving it to Boris over this council election
To be far, Boris is the architect of his own mess: a swing of almost 30000 votes. I never rated him as Mayor but he is proving to be fourth rate and this govt. is one of the worst in living memory tbh.

Incompetence, chumocracy and sleaze seems to be the hallmark of this government.

The chumocracy and sleaze is intriguing as they seem to have blatantly got away with that stuff.

His befuddled class clown and buffoon vaudeville routine has worn rather thin now.

He doesn't haven't any other gimmicks to fall back on other than the initial success of the vaccine roll out, which was ahead of the EU. But most people aren't looking for an endless round of boosters, which the vaccine success will ultimately be measured against.

Sadly the alternatives from both side of the House seem equally as likely to be not up to it.

Where is the talent in politics?
