This Week In Science & Technology

"Second Sight told the magazine that during its financial difficulties it had had to reduce its workforce and 'was unable to continue the previous level of support and communication for Argus II users'.

It has since contacted users and doctors, saying it will do its best to 'provide virtual support'. But no repairs or replacements are possible for the implants."

I hope Apple doesn't go bankrupt when I stick their eye-Phone in my eye.

People want Facebook blocked in the west because of the fake news/right wing propaganda and Russia wants to block Facebook because of anti-Russian propaganda.

Facebook must be a cesspool.

Because we all know the Russian war machine is powered by SAP enterprise software running on Oracle databases accessed by Russian soldiers with Windows laptops.

Not sure why it was compared with Blockbuster. The latter didn't have issues getting titles from studios want to keep the stream/rent money for themselves. The latter also didn't try to make its own content to compensate.

"Researchers have rejuvenated a 53-year-old woman's skin cells so they are the equivalent of a 23-year-old's."

"The next step is to see if the technology will work on other tissues such as muscle, liver and blood cells."

I wouldn't mind some skin, muscle, liver and blood cells that are 30 years younger.

All 5 building blocks of DNA, RNA found in meteorites from Canada, U.S., Australia

Researchers have found all nucleobases needed to make DNA and RNA in meteorites

god must have put them there...

God might have. But God then saw what became of His creation and promptly left when the first living thing committed infanticide, raped their neighbour's offspring, and hung their enemy in a reverse crucifix with their genitals in hanging out of its orifice.

Dropbear Dropbear

Meanwhile, my case is still up the road at the Hilton ordering take-out and complaining that we won’t let him fly home for another week. I’m the unlikely event that he becomes symptomatic, we need to send an HCID specialist team with a wrapped ambo to get him to Galveston and into the bio-containment unit. Ungrateful fucker.

Got a decent paper to refer me to. How easy is it to catch, pass on, symptoms, vulnerability, duration, long term, short term etc etc

Solid resources. Think of it as ‘son of smallpox’ with the twist that it may be more transmissible sexually.

More transmissible mainly through male to male penetrative sex.
Unlike the vagina, which is lined with a dense layer of protective epithlial cells that act as a barrier, to virus, the rectum only has a single column of these cells. Because rectal tissues are fragile, they are also prone to breakage, allowing the virus to slip past this thin layer. Because of this, viruses can establish an infection quickly.

Anal sex (regardless of genders of parties involved) will always be riskier for viral transmission in a range of circumstances.

We’ve also seen some transmission through fomites, so oral sex can’t be ruled out either.

Read this as 'forumites'.

Male to male anal and oral sex. We have people who aren't straight heterosexuals here?

Dropbear himself lives the good Catholic life.

I cannot overemphasis how much Musk and all the other California tech bros have fucked up South and Central Texas. Austin used to be a lot of fun before they all moved here.

Good to see that at least some effort is being made to save some of the earlier history and culture.

Only California?

I thought Texas was a popular destination for internal migration from the older states.

‘Older states’?

Silicon Valley relocated to Austin l a few years ago and brought the workforce. Totally changed the character of the town. Now they are heading to the Rio Grange Valley to bulldoze that culture as well.

Meant to say colder.

People in the northeast for example.

Culture change as in they all eat vegan organic food, tote yoga mats and sip kale juice or they aren't Texan?

Austin was a sleepy college town best known for the thriving music scene and laid-back cosmic cowboys (dope smoking’ hippies like Willie and Townes). The population has boomed so quickly, it doesn’t so much feel like Cali (which isn’t bad) as just being …. Anywheresville.

The RGV is is very Hispanic (and also very left-leaning), even if the state is so gerrymandered that this isn’t reflected at the Capitol. They are always upset that state school history textbooks do such a poor job of telling their story. As a result, they make a conscious effort to retain their heritage and identity while bringing in outside corps like Space X to improve employment.
