Video Games

I'm trying to suggest games for my 6 year old nephew. My brother has strict rules on violence. Moving Out seems pretty benign and seems similar to Overcooked. Also Wobbly Life.

Of course he's hooked on platform and racing games and I'm trying to get him something he can play with his younger brother.
Most popular are Roblox and Minecraft. What platforms is he playing on?

True! My kids have been playing these for years (and taken summer camp classes on coding them). Minecraft can be violent if you want it to be. Most Roblox games and worlds seemed really dumb to me (Royale High!) but there’s the potential to do some cool mini-game building.

Every adult I know thinks they’re obnoxious while their kids love them. Not sure if that speaks to the game or a different dynamic.

Xbox One. Because his grandfather (our father) bought it for his father and he inherited it.

Moving Out and Overcooked are good. Human Flat Fall. Goat Simulator. I’d have to see what else my youngest plays - but some might be too ‘girly’

My brother is okay with his son going to a Disney on Ice show in a skirt...............................................................................................................should he choose.

I'll look at those.

Minecraft and Roblox sounds like there's a lot of DLC type stuff no? They're starting their Lego phase. His father is already broke from housing costs so I'd rather not have him beg to have a new digital bauble every week because all of his fake "virtual" friends have it.

My son never asks for Minecraft add-ons, but my daughter is always begging for more ‘Robucks’. Worse still, they are now making dolls, castles etc with digital tokens.

if it outputs in 4k to the tv and they make a new zelda which they definitely will.

Aren't those cartoon graphics? Does the anime get more colours or more shades? I can understand with people you can see more wrinkles, acne scars and moles as you make jumps in resolution.

Brighter colors, more vivid picture, more definition in backgrounds, there are lots of way higher definition comes into play just like with watching a football game.

I haven’t had much time to play, but I love the flight sims for the latest oculus or whatever they are calling it now. The higher resolution graphics are amazing and it’s not so heavy on the head now.

Hitman was on sale a few weeks ago, which might be fun in VR. Mrs Dropbear plays it on the XBox a lot.

The Sims turns 25 today. Your virtual sim kids could have grown up and had their own sims by now.

Kids play Dungeons and Dragons these days? Don't they have VR and 100" TV screens to visualise everything for them?

I don’t know about kids, but I know RPGs had a big resurgence in popularity with Gen Xers

I was looking at a Minecraft immersive experience exhibit for some kids. Right now the location is hosting a D&D one so I was checking reviews whether it is actually worth buying a gift card. I thought it was based on the D&D movie that came out a few years ago but it's actually more on the D&D games of yesteryear - pre computer even. Apparently it's a hit with ages 12 and under.

A bunch of people gathering around a table rolling dice and reading from books wasn't my idea of a great hobby.

I played those role playing games before I hit my teens. Lots of fun at that age, but I can’t really imagine adults getting into it
