Watching The Foundation with Mrs DB. I have no clue what’s going on anymore.

I started Invasion last night. It seems to be side-stepping the worst war of the worlds cliches so far.

I finished Great Expectations. Who thought it was a good idea to rewrite one of the greatest Victorian novels of all time?

Estella doesn't marry Drummle. She is seen dancing with Jaggers at the end. Pip marries Biddy - which is wrong. Pip went back to propose to Biddy but found Biddy married Joe after Pip's sister, Joe's wife, died. Miss Havisham doesn't die.

I can maybe understand if some foreign nation interprets the novel differently but this is the BBC - the home of Charles Dickens. I can't fathom any actor or actress would willingly take part in this absurd perversion of the original text.

Is anyone watching the Ahsoka show? Are we making new Star Wars spinoffs just because the character looks somewhat out of the ordinary? I don't remember Ahsoka doing anything terribly important in the previous movies that are part of the canon.

I am. It’s enjoyable on its own but if you really want to “get it” you need to watch the entire run of Clone Wars animated show. All of the same characters and the whole backstory on the relationships come out of that show.

Discovered and finished 'Industry'. It is a joint HBO/BBC production and it is interesting. Sure, the plot holes are as wide as the pacific and the characters all seem to be as awful as those current republican nominees for presidency, it is still a good watch. I read somewhere it was referred to as a 'banking-and-wanking saga' and that encapsulates it well.

Comparisons with succession or even Billions are off the mark though.

I gave up some point in s1 as it was unwatchable. Felt a little bad as I was ensorcelled by the character that plays Demerzel

S2 gets even more confusing. It is visually interesting but the plot is so ‘epic’ it feels like they hand the script over to new writers each week to do whatever they feel like.

Caught up to S2 of Invasion. It’s not great, but very watchable and I stay up to late each night telling myself I’ll just watch one more segment.

My attention span has improved but I don't think it has improved so much I can binge watch multiple seasons of cartoons just to get ready for Ahsoka. It sounds like I'll be lost and not know how to appreciate most of the characters and the plot nuances of the show.

That said I finished watching Rogue One believing the empire was a force for good, a necessity, and a better bet for the average inhabitant of the galaxy far far away so maybe I interpret things differently.

I'm wondering if I should watch Lionness.

Hijack is pretty good. Avoids a lot of the usual cliches, even if the premise isn’t exactly plausible. Three eps in and I can say this is definitely one to binge on and then forget. 8/10 so far.

I started watching Who Is Erin Carter? on Netflix. I'm not quite sure they are really leveraging their shooting location. Barely anyone speaks Spanish in the series. It almost feels like a story about an ex pat enclave in a foreign country.

I also quickly noticed that Erin Carter is not Hispanic. Evin Ahmad is the daughter of Iraqi/Syrian Kurds and grew up in Sweden.

It is garbage. I watched 20 mins of the first episode and knew that it was crap.

Paused and read a few reviews and the consensus was ' give it a miss'.

I made it through episode 4 because Evin Ahmad looks attractive.

Blackbird
Bad Sisters
Severance
Slow Horses

All good stuff.

I just realised you're an AppleTV subscriber.

The Morning Show has another season so I'm wondering whether to get one for a few months to watch that, Ted Lasso and a few others I missed.

The other half likes the Morning Show. I've watched a few eps and it's ok. I didn't think much of Ted Lasso but enjoyed some of it. I do a fantastic Roy Kent impersonation.

Couldn’t sleep, but couldn’t find anything I really wanted to watch so I started The Recruit. I’m not really sure what to make of it, but I’ll keep going. It sits somewhere uncomfortably between drama and comedy, satire and seriousness.

It is silly nonsense. But it is entertaining nonsense. I didn't hate it.

Against QuandioDio's suggestion I did finish Who is Erin Carter. Two people get shot in the abdomen and somehow don't need much medical attention other than one you can get from a first aid kit. I don't know if it's going to get renewed but they left a teaser at the end the Erin/Kate undercover character could be activated by the British police again.

I'm watching Dinner Club on Amazon. It's a food show with Carlo Cracco going to different regions of Italy to find local recipes or obscure ingredients with another member of the dinner club. They then return and cook it for the rest of the dinner club. Like Gordon Ramsay, they often do weird stunts (zip lining) to make the show more exciting. It's actually pretty entertaining but most of the dinner club are celebrities so they have no idea how to cook. They can moan and complain though.

I think Carlo does most of it and the rest just go along for the ride as comic relief. I haven't seen him on MasterChef but I have seen him at Final Table and on Italia Squisita and he gives off this condescending I'm an ass vibe but on his own show he's actually pretty funny without being a prick.

I finished the second season of The Bear.

I'd say the season lacked the focus the original one had. After the first episode every episode ended up being a deep dive into a supporting character's development with the new restaurant set up as the backdrop.

Olivia Colman makes a nice cameo.

The flashback episode where they go over the Berzatto Christmas was painful to watch. I get the fact they want to show why Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach play such flawed characters but it was 45 minutes of pure cacophony. No family can be this dysfunctional and still wants to get together. It also shows why the brother committed suicide. Jaime Lee Curtis was unrecognisable to me.

They really should have taken 3 episodes and did a Carm & Syd romance because it seems she's the only one who understands (or can cope) with his fanatical devotion to the restaurant business. She ends up being the only one who can calm him down when he goes into another tantrum. There was something worthwhile to explore there.
Hmm, I don't quite see that.

I must be one of, if not the only person that found Bear S1 better than S2.
The family Christmas episode was indeed a hot mess. S2 has a significant upgrade on star power though, it seems like everyone wants to get in and take a slice of the zeitgeist. Jamie Lee Curtis hasn't aged well at all!

I enjoyed Marcus in Copenhagen arc. I was lucky enough to eat at the old and new Noma (Noma is now shut permanently) but casting Will Poulter was a miscast as he himself said he 'crowbarred' his way in.
In other news, It further confirms my inveterate belief that a 'quenelle of ice cream (or a quenelle of anything)' is pointless. I once worked in a starred restaurant way back in my youth where one of the pastry chefs used to have one of his spoons sharpened that he used to dole out quenelles. It was as useless then as it is now.

I also think Carm and Claire are a better fit than he and Syd. Too emo together, too flawed and there is as much chemistry as a popped balloon.

It is still frenetic and whilst Carmy is great; Sydney is luminous and considerably the superior acting performance

PS
The Boursin omelette which is now a tiktok phenom is amusing

I've never been to any of those world famous restaurants. Some folks on here were suggesting I should go to Tickets when I was in Barcelona but I left it too late to book and my ex lady friend didn't want to hang around all night waiting for no shows.

But I did read that people working at Noma and El Bulli said these places aren't really sustainable for the long term - not just the concept but the people working in them.

I use an oriental soup spoon to cheat on that.

It's been a month since I watched it but wasn't Claire always the one making the moves trying to get into his life? It'd be like actors and actresses. A tacit understanding that you can disappear for 6 months for a film shoot in the jungle.

Most of those restaurants are indeed not built for the long term. Too many issues to address here but my main issue was, if I recall correctly Noma was built and run with uncompensated labour which is pretty shitty. It was under the guise of 'unpaid internships' That isn't uncommon in the industry but at that level and the prices they charge, hmmm.

I have eaten at a few and they were all excellent but also all overrated. Fat Duck and le Manoir (mostly Le Manoir) was the one that truly impressed.

It's a cartoon? When you said it I thought it was a movie about guns. When you mentioned your wife I thought it was about women in bathing suits.

Not a cartoon, but a big budget Netflix fantasy action drama. I assume it is based on an Asian comic.
