What TV Shows Are You Watching?

half way through narcos season 3. its suffering from the lack of a central enigmatic figure like pablo escobar. the cali guys just aren't as interesting. still, its enjoyable so far.

finished Bojack Horseman season 4. a little uneven and not as good as seasons 2 or 3 but still great. they do such an amazing job depicting mental disorders in this show.

I'm a fan of episode 6. Great internal dialogue.

Was that the "I'm a piece of shit" episode? If so, then yes, that was incredible. So was the Princess Caroline future baby episode. And Beatrice's remembering episode. I honestly wasn't that thrilled with the Todd episodes but I a lot of people seem to like them.

That's the one! It's amazing how a cartoon can portray these things so much more accurately than a live action show. I don't know about the Todd episodes. I liked the one where he was doing everything for everyone but chose himself in the end, but they weren't nearly as good as the others.

Stay safe in the hurricane bud!

Narcos was pretty damn good.

Just blasted through Broadchurch. 2 seasons. Liked it. Another angst filled Scottish copper

I enjoy it much more than that Hinterland show. Suppose I'm in the bag for Tenant.

It's gone now. Just waiting for the power to come back on.

Wait until you get to the final two episodes.

Second 'Strike' two parter. Good lead actors. The woman even manages to make you forget that nobody in real life would take such a terrible job as she does.

Plot not so strong as the three parter but characters developing nicely.

Have to wait until the new year for the next episodes.

Ok with Miller's character (Jane was rather good) but the actor who plays the Rocinante captain has the charisma of an oyster. Giving it's the main character (after episode 5) it's a big problem. Good show nevertheless.

Yeah, but Amos makes up for the shitty captain, and he's in plenty of scenes.

Finished the Hitler's Bodyguards series on Netflix, very good in general.

Back on Fargo now, still only on the sixth episode of the first series.

Watched the Scorsese's documentary on George Harrison, some of the interviews in the last part I've seen before somehow. It's an amazing thing, The Beatles phenomena, a quirk in time and place, like Elvis, unlikely to be repeated on that scale of cultural impact. Stars may earn more, but from a zeitgeist perspective, based on music? I don't think so.

The stuff on his stately home and gardens, plus film producer credentials is excellent. Like all who end up privileged beyond all expectations, he had his weaknesses....

Has anybody started to watch the new Ken Burns documentary on the Vietnam war?

Yes. Good leftist documentary on the war but you should better watch Apocalypse Now Redux, in particular the scene with the French family to understand the dead-end of the conflict.

I've got that on Bluray, looks fantastic on the 60" plus Loewe. I read somewhere that Coppola went so far as to courier in French wines and lobster for the French plantation scene, but in the end the scene didn't work for the original release.

I just finished the Burns documentary on WWII, that was pretty good.

The most interesting thing is certainly the character of McNamara. Unfortunately the documentary forgets the info ops issue and how the US medias and the civil rights movement serve the propaganda of Hanoï.

I watched The Fog Of War and McNamara emerges as a thoroughly decent chap, despite having to make ruthless decisions e.g. low level bombing of Tokyo knowing that it would result in higher casualty rates for US airmen.

watching this norwegian show called Mammon. its really, really good. english subtitles are difficult to find for the 2nd season. i recommend using the ones from opensubtitles.

Netflix just posted series 4 for Line of Duty. Slowly working my way through it. I keep losing track of something and I have to rewind if my eyes stray to my iPad or mobile.

Recent watching:

Romanzo Criminale - Italian mob show set in Rome in the 70's. pretty interesting so far. i'm about half way through season 1.

mindhunters - new series on netflix about fbi psychologists in the 60's. only one episode in but it could be something. very dry.

Barreled through MindHunters. Very good. Had a very David Fincher meets 70's cop show vibe to it. I enjoyed it.

Im reading again, though i watch thirty minutes of Outlander at the gym most days. It’s perfect for that. Which is not high praise.

There's been a big kerfuffle here about a female breakfast tv presenter being let go and being paid less than her male copresenter. He's paid $2m she only $1.8m! Now she's been snapped up by rivals for a reported $2.2m.

Now ignoring the issue as to if anyone is worth that sort of money.

My question is :: does anyone watch breakfast tv? If so who. I don't know anyone who does. In fact I'd rarely watch more than 2 hours of TV a week

I have one tv and it's in its own room basically up the other end of the house from kitchen, lounge area. Ms.fxh likes to watch news about 6pm. Sometimes we'll watch Netflix movie or doco. But not much. How do others consume tv. I'm curious.

Well, then you’re not their target audience, eh? Lots of people that don’t have jobs to go to/stay at home watch it.

I know people who don't have jobs or stay at home for other reasons none of them watch to in the morning.

I started Mindhunter. Rather good indeed but it lacks some stamina and ability to create the great and deep anxiety that characterized Zodiac for example (I love this movie). The relationship between the partners is also a bit weak.

It’s a little slow for the first four eps then it kicks up a bit.

Yes, because the world only exists of people you know.
Ok I'll make it easy - Do you Monkeyface watch early morning TV chat shows? Do you know anyone who does?

I know lots of different types of people of all age groups and different classes in society - I still don't know anyone who watches morning tv "chat" shows. I know young parents with little kids who often have cartoons etc on in the morning but not these shows. That's why I'm asking. Even the ratings don't really show that many people watch.
