What's Making You Happy Today?

Acai with chocolate, I'm addicted to this things, and the best part of it is I eat them and loose fat. I'm a happy man.

The best is the HEMI V8 Trucks in which you see most of those stickers, both engine manufacture and assembly is done in Satillo, Mexico.

Yes, sir.

Just for curiousity, Nissan's made in Mexico, the majority does not stay in Mexico, they go to Europe, South America and Japan.

VW is made in Puebla, and now Audi is going to be made in there too. Mazda and Honda are going to be made in Iraputao, Guanajuto.

Just got an email from a literary agent suggesting concrete ideas for rewrites and wanting to see a resubmission with those tweaks. Sure beats the shit out of form rejection emails.

Best part is, I think he's right; I just didn't want to do all that work so I was hoping someone would buy it as is.

You're writing a book? What about?

You're writing a book? What about?

It’s based on my experiences in a little-known branch of Army Special Operations responsible for humanitarian and relief work in corners of the world too dangerous for NGO’s. The book has anecdotes but it is not a memoir; it’s more of a military science work with political and historical analysis about the future of warfighting and force projection in a coming world of low-intensity conflict.

That's awesome. Have you thought about self publishing?

Self publishing can be the way to go for certain genres. For this book to work, though, I'd need a pretty good platform and other than a blog that only gets about 1000 hits a month, I really don't have it. Hell, I'm not an officer, so my book wouldn't even be taken seriously inside the military. Even if my ideas were adopted as doctrine, I couldn't ever do military lectures. Sad but true.

I'd be better off with a small publisher that specializes in this kind of work, and an agent who can help me obtain speaking gigs and get more articles published. I see this book as an extension of my consulting work and, when published, a buttress for my resume.

And, of course, should I start to get speaking gigs and lectures booked, I'll need to work on my wardrobe. So it all works out.

My 3 y.o. son is still enjoying having a 3 day old sister.

Mum and dad, oth, haven't had more than two hours consequtive sleep since last week.

Three Pop Tarts today plus Acai with chocolate to loose fat... I'm telling you, I'm a happy man. :omg:

I just found out that the reason my cell phone has been dropping calls left and right for the last few months is because Sprint is upgrading their towers to LTE. I know I live in a small market but a) it took them this damn long to upgrade and b) because of these upgrades their current system goes to shit? You have no idea how frustrating and humiliating it is to have to call a client back 3 times during a 20 minute convo because of dropped calls.

Bubba knows but for others, my small market is Southern California.
Sprint sucks.

Finally won another auction on eBay!

Cool what did you get?

I just won a drake's knit tie - I put a low bid on it about a week ago never expecting I would win and turned out I was the only bidder. Bit worried there might be something wrong with it now.

I won this one:

Congrats to you too, I hope the tie you won is in perfect state!

Nice.

Speaking of ebay, a couple of years ago I spotted in a local history book a reproduction of an old postcard (c.1920) that happened to feature a picture of our house. I have been looking for that postcard ever since, including a saved search on ebay - and it's just today come up for sale. It will be mine!

Just bought the fuck out of this handbuilt, reclaimed barnwood table:

To go here. . .

DiningRoomResize_zpscfaeae99.jpg

. . . to replace the above Goddamned Risky Business-era abomination I got for free on CL. The new table is 50 X 90" and comes with matching benches built from the same wood.

The table and pink chairs are already up on FreeCycle. They can't leave too soon. I've been hemming and hawing for years about getting a new dining room table; I just didn't want to throw down five grand for a distressed table that size at Restoration Hardware.

Now the chair hunt begins.

It'll be delivered in three weeks. Three weeks, and my dining room will kick ASS.

Thank you. Thank you.

To put it into perspective, the ceiling is just under 11'. The picture on the wall is 4X3'. I've had a bitch of a time finding a table that would do the space justice. I've been keeping an eye out for about five years, now.

Somebody ordered this table made to a custom size and then changed their mind for whatever reason. The builder couldn't sell it because most dining tables are 40 or 42", and most rooms aren't built to accommodate a 50" table. As a result, it's been gathering dust in his warehouse for months. I got a screaming deal, which leads me to believe he kept their deposit and I picked it up for balance owed.

Rain Man Rain Man That looks like a beautiful home. Also, FWIW, I really like the pink chairs!

Thanks. I posted the story with pics on SF Cribs (old handle: Pierce_R) but short version is, it used to be a barn. That space was two adjacent garages. We used to flip condos; we paid cash for the barn and the rest is sweat equity.

Someone claimed the table and chairs off FreeCycle not 20 minutes after I posted them. Maybe they weren't as hideous as I thought.

Probably discrimination.

In more happy news, I think I am finally finished putting together my tenure dossier. It's been a big pain in the ass, as my university has switched over to an online system for the first time. That means I've had to convert a million documents into pdfs and learn how to use the new system. All in the context of the highest stakes decision I've been subjected to for the last five years.

Thats excellent news. I hope the decision comes back quickly.

After 3 jackets, my tailor nailed it. I'm so fucking pleased. It was a long road, but absolutely worth it.

Internship for the summer is over, so I have a week off and free of responsibility before school starts on the 24th. Time to play w/ my daughter, and maybe take a quick drive down to CA.

What I would give for the days of a childhood summer break...

So happy A Canuker has paid the deposit our Littlest is officially registered at the Mount Royal University Preschool September 4 is her first day :)
