What's Making You Happy Today?

Got an astonishing offer from another unit, one I did some work with last year. They've initiated paperwork to lateral me into a position two pay grades higher than where I am now -- comes with a bump in rank -- working with their senior staff. If this goes through, my military career will involve brainstorming in a small room with other eggheads and consuming good coffee and Danish one weekend a month until about 2016. No more obstacle courses, no more helicopters, no more camels, no more blood chits. I can finally unpack my ruck.

My commander may squash it; I'm his Golden Boy. But this has been a really good few days.

My company commander signed my transfer today after a heavy conversation. It's funny being on the receiving end of a "Son, I'm disappointed in you," talk with someone ten years my junior. Battalion commander still has to sign off on it but it appears to be a go.

I bought an iPad mini for someone's daughter's birthday. I got everything installed and configured. I just shut it off. Unfortunately I won't be there in person to give it to her but I know she has been waiting for it.

The flexy shading of my Reform 1745 fountain pen. This cheap little German school pen from a few decades ago qualifies as luxury writing for me.

I'm going to London on Wednesday. Sitting in the back with the proletariat but oh well. At least I have lounge access.

I just saw a job opening for a competitor of mine. Same level doing probably 50-60% of my current job and it says I get to set up the thing from ground up. Yes! I spent two hours applying for it. Then I realized all the people who defected from my old firm to another one have all left before this competitor acquired them.

Still doesn't hurt to explore your options.

Planning the varieties of chex mix I'm making for over the holidays. Doing and Italian one with balsamic and spices should be good

Why on earth would that be hate worthy unless of course thats your jelousy talking HAHAHA but you know that stuff can hold up pretty well in a tin when mailed
If you're going to poison me via mail, at least have the decency to use anthrax so that I don't have to suffer!

I found my money clip. I thought I lost it last week but I found it amongst my tie clips, cuff links and other metal accessories.

Did about 14 pints yesterday with my old work mates. That the night ended with him mooning Indian takeaway places and being refused liquor at nandos at Liverpool street says something.

Got tapped for a 6-month "deployment " 20 minutes from my house. I'm doing the paperwork on it now; if this goes it should start in December. I get to give lectures in a sportjacket and tie, during which time I'll be introduced as "The Army's Leading Expert On This." Pretty damned sweet. A slot with the words "senior" and "subject matter expert" in the title is the final bullet point for my commissioning packet. I should be an officer candidate by this time next year.

it is Thanksgiving. I booked a half day holiday even though I am a Canadian working for a German company. Popping out at lunch to have a drink and watch football.

Got a new fridge-freezer recently and didn't realise it had an integral ice maker (it's hidden in the freezer not visible from outside like most, and I was in a bit of a hurry at the time and it was on a deal and the right size and looked pretty). Just spent most of the weekend retrofitting plumbing round the kitchen (nearest water was the other side of the room of course) and fitting the fridge. It all works.

I forgot to buy milk yesterday and didn't have enough to put on my cereal this morning, so I had toast and marmalade for breakfast instead. It was like being on holiday.

Someone did something nice for me today. First time in a long time that's happened.

Hand beaded sleeveless sweater and black velvet pencil skirt from Brooks Brothers for the office Christmas dinner this coming Friday

received today: "The Texas State Board of Public Accountancy congratulates you on successfully completing the Uniform CPA Examination"
