Similar price? I'd say the Rolex. The Black Bay is nice but but it is an in-house homage to their past watches so unless you want that...
30 yr old = 1675? the 1675 is very very very beautiful
especially if you get one with a radial dial...
No, Rolex is about £4-5k, a new Tudor about £2.5k. I'd say the Tudor will depreciate by about a grand over time, while the Rolex will remain flat to a slight appreciation, at least in line with inflation. Rolex maintenance is more expensive though.
The only reason I'm thinking of buying it is because a watch will return more than a savings account (even when taking into account the cost of carry) and I get some enjoyment out of wearing it. It's also a relatively liquid asset, meaning I'll be able to sell it within a month in case I need the cash.
Hence, the Rolex, despite being more expensive, seems to be the smarter option.
Yeah, 1675. Not sure if a radial dial is worth the extra 2-3k, think a regular one will do just fine. Pepsi bezel of course.
16700 vs 1675 radial
The radial ones have become very expensive, have a look at chrono24... Starting from €12.000!

I'd rather have a regular one for half the price. At 12k it seems like it doesn't have much more room to increase in value.
Get the Rolex. Better in the long run by all accounts. Plus because there are so many GMT's you won't get the aggro from the RSC about not wanting to service because of lack of parts or be responsible for damaging a rare dial - which they are doing with some rarer models.
All top end watches cost for service. But that is once every 5 to 7 years
My Sinn service is €700
Yeah, all real assets (especially of the luxury variety) have inflated in price quite a bit since 2008. Real estate, art, classic cars, wine, whisky, etc.
Damn, I didn't know Sinn had gotten that dear.
Art has gotten absurd lately, but there are still some good values in low profile sectors. Wine too. Real Estate is just ridiculous across the board.
Damn, I didn't know Sinn had gotten that dear..
Modern art is on the way down already, not really performing well in auctions lately. One of the first signs of the bubble becoming slightly less inflated. It probably won't burst though.
It has always been with the EZM1. Has to go to Frankfurt and there is added €€ because the have to refill the Ar gas

how can no one outside of germany have the equipment to repair this watch? No one has the machinery for Argon. Even the North American Sinn service centre can't do it

just got off the phone with them. they have had the tech to do the repair for 2 years now. cost is about $550 with $20 shipping.
I'm here for ya.Good to know. Thanks. Previously talked to them before they obviously acquired the equipment and they told me to send it to Frankfurt so never thought to enquire again
I'm here for ya.
Get the Stowa. You'll always be second guessing yourself if you don't.That is definitely nicer than anything else in that price range. I still want the pseudo-authentic touches of the Stowa though.

You should try it on a CHINstrap.

Good. There is a need competition blodsport style in the 3000 - 5000 $ range. imho this is where ppl outside of watch geeks, are willing to invest in that one quality watch.Richemont profit down 45%. Bubble is bursting? Vintage Rolex prices going down?
I like it.
It would, however, be better without the display back (in my personal opinion).

Any reason?
I have no preference to be honest - since the case back isn't visable on the wrist.
Sub-homages aren't my ballpark but I'm sure you can do better than those.View attachment 18887 After reading way to many watch geek forums now, I'm even tempted to add a Sub homage. And I've always made fun of Rolex wearers.
