Fall of Afghanistan

Yes. It is not Saigon. Nobody gives a sh@t about reputation nor credibility. Why wouldn’t you try to do the responsible, moral and honourable thing?

Another one where our experts couldn't predict the glaringly obvious end result of withdrawal.

Utter humiliating and desperate scenes. A cluster fuck of a retreat. Too busy flying the rainbow flag over the embassy to see it.

There's some chat that a C-17 transport aircraft designed for 134 troops with kit, left Kabul with 800 souls onboard. What we don't want is a hostage situation with Westerners.

We need to focus on the issues at home and leave those in the Dark Ages to carry on, but ensure they're sealed-off in their playpen.

The exact quotation:

"Is there a comparison between the U.S. withdrawal in Kabul and the flight from Saigon in 1975? 'None whatsoever. Zero,' Mr. Biden said. 'What you had is you had entire brigades breaking through the gates of our Embassy. Six if I’m not mistaken. The Taliban is not the South, the North Vietnamese army. They’re not—they’re not remotely comparable in terms of capability. There’s going to be no circumstance where you’re going to see people being lifted off the roof of a embassy'"

God forbid he orders a strike on Iran..no wait, Iraq..no it's Iran.

I don’t quite understand how come there was no resistance at all to the Taliban walkover.

Anyone that thought that this would end any other way was deluded. The choice was this or stay forever. There was no orderly exit

Lookat what happened last time, when the Soviets pulled out. Collaborators were all executed. I think most people saw the writing on the wall and either tried to get out or dropped their weapons, burned their uniforms and pretended they have been farming poppies for the past few years.

That press conference will live on in infamy.

He's playing to the Pakistani street, not only in Pakistan. This will get the Islamist cells in the West riled up and ready for some mayhem.

Yes and no, they could have managed the exit and got the nationals out in good order. The airport should have been well secured with a perimeter and ensuring the spectacle of evacuation was done with some finesse.

Now it's starting to look like a possible Black Hawk down for the troops left, unless of course, you're a CNN journalist:

We'll see how that narrative goes and how that journalist gets on in the ensuing days.

I agree. Therefore we should never have gone in in the first place.

Someone posted a tweet the other day, that said that the US has spent more loot in aid to Afganistan than they spent on Marshall Aid after WWII adjusted for inflation!

It wouldn't surprise me.

That was mentioned on Talk Radio, but I find it incredulous.

Anyway, no need to worry now that St Jacinda pleads with the Taliban:

If you spend your money on those who like to keep young boys as sex slaves:

The only way we were going to win was to destroy and humiliate their culture completely.

And we didn't have the stomach for that.

One hopes we have a better stomach to take them on at home. But that's very debatable.

Probably the landing gears as I said.

Every other year you hear reports of bodies falling out of the sky. Refugees climb onto the landing gear and then into the landing gear bay. When the pilot retracts the gear they can be crushed depending on how well the design engineers have packaged the gear. Failing that the cold (<-50C) temperatures at the height jets fly or asphyxiation kills them. Some actually do survive though. A Kenyan boy survived a few years back as I recall.

The Eastern Europan borders will be being reinforced as I type.

This is going to be a catastrophe.

These guys were actually clinging to the top of landing gear nacelles, on the exterior.
