If this draft reflects the final decision of the Court, expected this summer, it would virtually eliminate abortion access in Texas. Last year, the Legislature passed a so-called “trigger law” that would go into effect 30 days after the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, making performing abortion a felony.

The law would make an exception only to save the life of the pregnant patient or if they risk “substantial impairment of major bodily function.” Doctors could face life in prison and fines up to $100,000 if they perform abortions in violation of the law.


This is a HUGE gift to state and fed Dems right before the midterms, which will now be a referendum on abortion and not Joe Biden or the economy.

The whole logic about how can some men dictate the rights of women is absurd too. Should we start mandating all gynecologists are women? After all only women would truly know about women.

The Republicans have been campaigning on overturning Roe via Supreme Court nominations for 30+ years. This is nothing new, but now it will be the primary issue driving voters to the polls. It’s a gift for the Dems, who have been floundering. Now they have a popular cause to campaign on. They can turn the national spotlight onto SC reforms and start promising that a Dem Congress will legalize abortion.

It gives them something to talk about. But as you said, republicans have been campaigning on this for 30 years, and few people are going to change their mind on the issue. So, I just don’t see it having a large impact. Arguably a large part of why Trump won in 2016 is because he promised to put conservative judges on the courts. I just don’t see someone who would have voted Trump/republics post-Trump changing their minds because of this decision. I think the effects will be very marginal, especially given inflation and what not which is all likely to get worse before it gets better. Plus, this getting leaked a month early will just give people more time to lose interest before the election.

Though, it is worth pointing out: while if you ask americans whether they want to overturn the results are as you say, but if you describe the actual policy without saying “roe” people favor more restriction than roe allows. In fact more than 50% support a ban after 15 weeks, which is ecactly what dobbs was about….

Starmer made no ground in the former Labour heartlands and he's on a very sticky wicket with his own Durham Police Beergate investigation now commencing.

Labour is gaining no momentum outside of the metropolis. Not good enough by far.

Talk of a hung parliament based on these results are premature.

There's no real breakthrough power wise for Sinn Feinn, as The Guardian states ''Unionists sought comfort in the fact that overall support for unionist parties marginally outweighed support for nationalist parties. Opinion polls show solid support for Northern Ireland remaining in the UK.''

The real issue from the election is that the DUP is haemorrhaging votes to more right wing and extreme parties.
