The SF/AAAC/FNB trainwreck thread

That would really surprise me, the only place where the mods are more lenient is probably 4chan.

'So did you get sussed immediately as 'any old asshole' or a spam merchant, AFS?'

But it may not have been him. Perhaps he was referring to someone else. The lack of software that permits quotes makes it hard for the guys who don't know how to reference to be understood.

God knows how many names this guy has already had across all forums over the past few decades. Maybe a slip of the tongue.

I find it somewhat strange, especially from Kingstonian Kingstonian who knows better, to talk about there being all politics when we have the same format here as FNB with clothes fora and a news forum (NSFW in FNBs case). It's literally exactly the same.

Kingstonian is great fun if you want to talk about local football in London or where to hit the boozer in the Home counties but apart from that he's become a moany old git who isn't half as sharp as he likes to think. Didn't he leave when rambo called him a cunt?

I honestly didn't notice, did he?

Looks like no one else is going to explain, so I will: AFS was referring to when he started a thread on TI and it was deleted for being political.

Oh, so the poor guy, was criticising DW for a knockback he'd had on TI. Anyway, long may he keep posting wherever. He obviously enjoys it as we all do.

Wearing my khakis right now and getting complimented left right and center. Almost as if these bad boys have a voice.

Institutional memory, eh?

Yes. Getting even the gist of what the guy is saying is difficult, and because he comes across as a bit of a smart alec at times he verges into sad and needing pity.

I do always open the site from time to time. Unfortunately that just confirms that Menswear forums are not in good shape. Long live this one in that case.

At $239 for a pair of khakis I would be hoping for a round of applause as I walked up the street.

He was pretty fckn moany about football as well. Brentford's ascendency had him pining for the 'old days'.

The new guy at Ivy Style seems to have a bit of history.

Talk Ivy rumbles on much the same, a handful of regulars, driven by the ‘manic poster of bitter inanities’ having conversations with himself, reminiscing about the golden age of the forum and resurrecting old threads. It’s become a rudderless ship with no active moderators, it can only be a matter of time before trolls take their toll or spammers put down the hammer. A limping ship drifting in cyberspace with a non functioning command system and the few surviving crew members forced to eat the same rations everyday. I hope it’s members will come over here in due course and savour the luxuries of being able to use the quote function and being able to post pictures and links. Why wouldn’t they want to? I for one will welcome them warmly.

A handful of regulars,
Driven by the ‘manic poster of bitter inanities’
Having conversations with himself, Reminiscing about the golden age of the forum
And resurrecting old threads.

It’s become a rudderless ship
With no active moderators
It can only be a matter of time
Before trolls take their toll
Or spammers put down the hammer.

A limping ship drifting in cyberspace
With a non functioning command system
And the few surviving crew members
Forced to eat the same rations everyday.

I hope it’s members will come over here in due course
And savour the luxurie
Of being able to use the quote function
And being able to post pictures and links.

Why wouldn’t they want to? I for one will welcome them warmly.

That reminds me of a bespoke software project all gone wrong. I very much embrace the office Kaizen principles of keeping it simple and off-the-shelf, especially for software. Which is relevant to the FNB world as whether he's paid for the website hosting to 2050 or not, the compatibility issues will kill it long before then.

Anyway, instead of going off-the-shelf for a database project, our UK office that had been tasked with it, went to some local provincial crony instead. I smelt a rat straight away. My due diligence revealed a taste in Florsheim shoes (seriously!) and a track record of failed IT business projects. One involved for the Scouts Movement a social media app that the Scouts Movement already had for free, but he wanted to charge individual Scout units for and ended in disaster when he revealed all the emails of under 18 members. A total fuckwhit.

A couple of the posters are clearly sock puppets, the style and content is the same. A leaf out of Jim's playbook.

Andy has a good style in writing, knowledge on jazz, a bit of romancing for effect and he should jump ship.

By Andy I presume you mean AFS. He will come in the end. He is too smart not to, and his determination to revive FNB is admirable even if sadly likely to be a drain on his energy. Instead of that, he could be writing the book on John Simons.

Film Noir Buff can't be revived, it's had it's day. Messaged FNB weeks ago and still haven't heard back. The place is dead as door nails. AFS will soon give up because no one man can save it. Filmnoirbuff.com is registered to be around for another 18 years or so.

FNB was great while it lasted and Mr FNB deserves to be applauded. This forum also has a great vibe and purpose and those who run it should also be thanked.

There was a lot of gratitude for FNB’s patronage of that site. He wasn’t particularly interested in Ivy but he recognised that Talk Ivy was a vibrant forum and he supported it for other’s enjoyment. It’s unfortunate the way it’s been cut adrift, but as you say, sooner or later it will become unusable.

The latest bizarre disclosure by AFS, there’s no shortage of entertainment with him about. I read this earlier with a mixture of sadness and incredulity. Sad that someone should feel the need to bare his soul online to this degree, incredulity that it passes without comment, so far down the drain is Talk Ivy.
