There was quite a bit of interest a few years ago on v cleats on this forum.

Oh they are indeed the BIG DADDYS of Longwing Gunboats.

Remember years ago you and me called into the Florsheim store and had a pair of "Suicide Cleats" Florheims in a plastic bag - - and showed them to a bloke in there ?

Was it you or me who had the V cleats?

I remember, and l bet the bloke has never forgotten it. How many blokes walk around the city with an old pair of V cleats and then happen to go into the Florsheim store. You gave them to me, remember?

There are shoo daddies, there are BIG daddies, and there is also the BIG Gunboat daddies.

The Gunboat daddies are in a whole different league, they are completely addicted, and it's a really closed off world. Same goes with the Allen Edmonds daddies. Trying talking to these guys sometimes, they don'twant to know ya because you are not part of their world.

On which page would these gunboats appear in a magazine dedicated to BIG Daddy Gunboats? (Sanders for Herring Shoes)

Does anyone know what's happened to Film Noir Buff? No replies to any messages and hasn't been around for almost a year. Who's running the island?

Filmnoirbuff.com has been paid up for the next 18 years, so it will exist for a long time to come (assuming the internet is still around in the future).

Let's just hope the guy is okay and doing well. He did a fantastic job in rescuing tortured inmates from AAAC and provided poor old Frosty Mellor the opportunity to educate little mods in Ivy. And even allowed some guys to campaign for raw food in between alerting the world to gemming failure.

I think FNB is off doing his thing. I exchanged an email with him probably a year ago, last I heard from him

THAT’s a story I’d like to hear!

It's honestly not much of a story, I've literally never had an interaction with him. People would quote tweet him and all I would see was the tweet was unavailable. Out of curiosity I clicked though one day and saw it was his account. No idea.

Style Forum has gotten so extreme, and l rarely ever want to go over there because it is too much of a hassle. Here's why.

If l am not logged in this is what my screen looks like most of the time. Not able to move the boxes. Impossible to read any posts.
Style forum disaster 1.jpg

when l try to get rid of the box another screen comes up. Forget about trying to accept cookies, that box is hidden underneath.
Style forum disaster 2.jpg

If l am logged in l get this box. It forces me to fill in a form to access each page. Sometimes l need to fill out the form twice to stay on a page.

I have never come across anything like it online. It tries to force me to do things l don't want to do. So commercial.

This is what happens when people make their living running forums, they need to keep on making money from the forums, and targets must be met, but look at what happens.

To be fair, I think all the menswear forums are struggling right now. Younger generations just aren’t interested in discussion beyond an Insta blurb. Of course SF is driving people away with all the adds and shilling. Fedora Lounge pulls in some younger folks, but it’s usually just to ask some questions before a major purchase and then they disappear again.

I'm somewhat surprised Fedora Lounge still exists.
Most of the activity is on the Outerwear/Workwear subform, which has hardly any cross-over with other fora. It’s mostly thirty and forty somethings talking about high end ‘workwear’ and Japanese ‘Amerikaji’ brands. Just as neurotic as the Sam Spade cosplaying crowd, in their own way.

The forums are all dying, and we can't worry about it because there is nothing we can do about it. Trends all come to an end eventually. I understand AAAC has little traffic, S.F has much less traffic, here has little traffic now sadly, FNB has no traffic, and Fedora Lounge has greatly slowed down too. Many blokes are bored and have moved on.

I like the blokes at FL, many are really into clothes and style, and most are modest. And yes, l have noticed a number of young blokes entering FL now, and the tone is different. In one thread l replied about Saint Laurent boots, but l felt like a real old fart in that thread and quickly got out. That peacoat guy is also young. There is/was also types like Jessie James who were modern types, but into traditional hats.

It is a funny old place at Fedora LOunge (I rarely post there or read the forum)....not as weird and daggy as it used to be. One bloke at the Fedora Lounge has 22 inch bottoms on his trousers (44 inch around)....seems like a nice bloke. I like that these Fedora Lounge blokes just do their own thing and don't show off.

The thing that I like about FL is that they are a friendly and supportive bunch, yet not afraid to give gentle criticism if they don’t like something.

It’s a mighty chasm between the leather jackets and boots crowd in the Outerwear forum and the hat wearers in the other subfora, but you are dead right right that the thing they all have in common is that they are on their own paths and not too concerned with trends and fashions or even what other people think (for better or worse, sometimes!).

I've posted this before but I'll never forget my old buddy Worried Man got me this sweet mug.

I will never not be amazed he became a main character on Twitter.

I still have no idea why he blocked me either.

The Liam McDonald tribute at FNB has been up for almost 10 years now. The forum is a desert. PM's never answered, no-one for months on end, and old posts stickied for 10 years about someone who has passed away. Pure bonkers.

We could add something to the DW Mission Statement that we are the last bastion for the remaining Big Daddies of the menswear forum era. It’s a small (top top elite) group that’s left, but they are all here.

Looks like Buffy's place is totally screwed now. Do you know why no-one has posted in over a week? It is because of this:
FNB forum 1.jpg

No-one is able to post anything anymore. 🥴 😍

I was about to make a major post exposing the biggest secrets of the luxury brand houses Dior, LV etc exposing how they use cheap labour to make some of their goods.
