I think there was a lot of leaked information to the press to gauge the Russian reaction and then a quick withdrawal when we realized we'd be in a WWIII situation.

According to an interview (in Russian) yesterday with Bellingcat's, Christo Grozev, it could be over in less than a week: Putin is isolated in his bunker being fed absolute BS, all his cronies are frightened and tell him what he wants to hear, they all know this is a loss leader for them, with no benefits and they're plotting now how to remove. Better hurry up then hadn't they.

Interestingly, they've been turning down a lot of foreign volunteers who have no military experience. Which shows the Ukrainians are not desperate. Like that Brit gym owner yesterday. But there's other ways to help, you don't have to be on the front line killing Russkie women and children killers, although I understand the attraction. They've kind of soiled their reputation for the next thousand years.

My wife's family arrives tomorrow, they stayed in south Germany yesterday. They came through Moldova, Romania, Hungary and now Germany. Not the traditional route which goes straight north through Ukraine and Poland and then west through Germany to here. All epic road journeys. Which I do like myself now and again. They'll arrive around noon. Wife won't be here, nor the kids. Just me. A bit of a anti-climax had visions we'd all be here waving the Ukrainian flag.

You think there will be a coup against Vladimir Putin? To the vast majority of the ones not bright enough to emigrate from Russia, he is Russia.

Don't need that, just get some interpreters at the border to welcome them in. And how does Patel expect the refugees to access the internet when they're on the run from Putin's hordes?

Meanwhile, the wife's nieces are registering with the employment agencies and looking for work. They only got here at lunchtime. Brother-in-law's company is arranging for a house in Zeeland. And he'll be on his LNG ship in a week and a half.

The Brits are essential to the Ukrainian war effort. They're delivering on that critical front. So they get a pass on that.

He's a clown, but that archetype has it's uses. And he himself has admitted he uses that persona to ultimate effect.

There is dreadful cronyism and incompetency in the UK, there's also the English sangfroid and organisational brilliance that renders itself essential in times of war. Such as now. The Brit intelligence and special forces are very much in the thick of it.

So yes, cometh the hour cometh the man. And it's not by accident, another clown type, a comedian no less, is leading the free world in this darkest of hours, as President of the Ukraine.

Absolutely, you want a fast track refugee process: accept or reject. Then allow people to work, give them support as needed. You don't want people stuck in hotels (or hangers and tents as they are here) on Universal Credit for the next several years not being able to do or contribute anything.
