WDYBT: What Did You Buy Today

Haven't done much clothing shopping lately, pre-paid for a bunch of vacations though.

Bought a pair of Rick Owens sunglasses yesterday, hopefully they fit.

Snagged myself a big daddy today. Haven't got good photos of it yet, but l will give you a preview.

The world's biggest BIG Daddy.
Classic BIG daddy.

It's always a good day when l snag myself a Big daddy.
I said l wouldn't get anymore pairs, but it is possible one or two pairs could sneak into the collection, but likely no more than that.

Lattanzi is rare these days. Numerous boutiques have shut down. Even resellers have access to very little anymore.

We may never see these shoos. Here is the nightmare l am going through:

1). wrong amount declared to customs, the result was a bill for many hundreds of dollars extra that l was not supposed to pay for.
2). forced to pay ransom demand to have shoos released. Was 10 days in customs held up.
3). countless calls to customs to try and sort out the issue and get a refund. Still no result.
4). shoos arrived today, THE WRONG PAIR!!!
5). other nightmares too numerous to list here. Gotta fix these messes somehow.

A nightmare. Let's hope you can get back to dreamland.

pretty steep price.

They are just under my personal limit for sneakers, 150$.

Although is a bit annoying to see the same shoes at a lower price on the US website, but I am sufficiently used to the Euro upcharge, even for something made in Europe.

I don’t understand sneakers at all. What is the appeal of this particular model?

With sneakers, at least classic running shoes like this, but also something like german army trainers, the foundation is that the same principles as proper shoes and boots apply, so the shape of the shoe, the materials and the amount of detailing determine the kinds of outfits they can be worn with, the german army trainers being (for me) the sneaker equivalent of a suede loafer or white bucks, and the navy running shoes being something like a full brogue derby boot.

I bought the Novestas because they are a fairly simple design and, for running shoes, fairly sleek in shape, with the sole adding a bit of interest, plus they are made somewhat locally.
Also, with athleisure being the the most significant trend of the past decades, they are a good way to avoid full-on grandpa steez, which is useful for someone fairly young.

First day in the office for a while, so I was finally able to collect a few recent purchases.

These boots are an absolute winner:

I’m less happy with the m2m suit, which will be probably be going back for a remake.

Who knew that funeral trousers existed? I have bought these for such an occasion.

I might need a dark Morning coat.

he was saying you're being a weirdo for buying clothes specifically for extremely random situations. like if americans bought clothes for school shootings.
I LOLLed as well, but rereading Panama’s post I thought maybe he is being a little obtuse about it but bought this to attend a specific and upcoming funeral of a friend. Brit stuff upper lips and all that?

Naw I think he’s doing that thing where after having spent a king’s ransom on acquiring mountains of clothing in ever more repetitive versions / colors of the same item covering all needs, wants, scenarios, events, contexts and occasions,, he’s finally coming towards the end of that “kopping” stage and having almost all of the bases covered (exhausted), he’s now casting about for ever-more obscure scenarios in which he might need something he doesn’t already own to justify spending even more money to assuage his rampant consumerism.

That reminds me I need to get an opera hat - one of those collapsible top hats, on the infinitesimal likelihood that I’ll one day decide I want to go to the opera. Must be dressed correctly. Wouldn’t want to be the object of scorn for not doing so. Oh, and a keffiyeh just in case MBS invites me to his garden party. Anyone know where to kop?

Bought this little beauty today. Rare as hen's teeth, and the last one in stock. Been wanting one for years. Love at first sight, just had to have it....will be so much fun wearing this hat, and it will definitely draw attention. The Italian company makes for Lock. A really good solid hat.

Got a couple of other boys today too, both homburgs, and good ones too.

Best hat is this, for obvious reasons, and Made in Spain

It is the best hat, nothing compares, the homburg! I have two of them. Got the homburg on today, a real big daddy hat.
Here is one l have in chocolate brown, a real high crown. Bought it recently, goes great with a camel overcoat. Also got one in navy.

Also bought this huge bugger recently, an aussie sambrero. Looks goofy in pics, but looks amazing on the head. The curled brim really gives character to the hat. One of a kind.

The aussie Akubra sombrero compared to the high crown of the english homburg. The aussie cowboy hat is like a big drum on the head, it's one big mutha.

That Akubra looks ridiculous. Wearing that you have definitely strayed into Tibor territory. Put it on, take a good long look in the mirror, then do your best to sell it on EBay or wherever. It’s fine to have a personal sense of style and feel a bit superior to clueless plebs but people will be laughing at you in the streets if you go out wearing that the same way they laugh at Tibor in his Napoleon outfit.

That was a weird Halloween costume, man.

It might not suit many of these young guys wearing them like that, but it sure suits me. I am really surprised at how good it looks on me, l have the build and the age to pull it off. Wearing the right clothes definitely helps. I wear it with an overcoat, l wear it with a shirt and high wasted trousers with braces showing (an especially good look), and l can wear it with a sportscoat. Some men look great in this hat.

Wore the homburg today too, it is another hat that really suits me. Got compliments on that one as well. Look better wearing a hat than without one, the key is to find one that suits you and always buy in person. I could do online bespoke and get a great hat, but will it suit me. Much prefer trying them on, even slight differences can through off the look.

Life is too short not to try various things out. I'll buy two Borsalino beaver fur fedoras (brown and navy), one more monetcristi, and a panama fino and my hat collecting is done! About 20 hats in total. Hats are like shoes and sox, it can get addictive. Even now l wanna buy all the styles, but l am going to be sensible about this. Got the fun ones, ie, the spanish and aussie sombreros, so l don't need to take it any further.

I will suspend my skepticism long enough for you to post a photo of yourself wearing one of these things.
